General Gaming News
Re: General Gaming News
No thanks. I'm happy to vote with my wallet and not support an organisation that has mandated AI use.
Contrary to that, the Hooded Horse CEO has come out and said none of the games they publish will use AI in any form, so it's certainly possible and I'll continue to support their games. Which, honestly, are far better than anything the triple-A's are producing these days.

I concur with Wrath. The game itself won't have AI in it. We (at our work) just use it instead of googling stack overflow and/or creating some boilerplate code or unit tests etc. Basically the menial stuff everyone hates doing

Re: General Gaming News
It was hard not to be pretty damn impressed if not even somewhat overwhelmed and joyous by how great they made Fable appear after waiting so long to see it in action finally. Every aspect you could hope for as a fan was right there note for note and better than ever. As for the AI implications, I can see exactly where Sly is coming from as it's from a company that wishes to abjectly force AI fucking sloperoo down our throats from every conceivable angle right now, and I could not be happier to read that it's currently not giving the companies whoring it out the returns they were expecting after going all in on it. These companies clearly never learn that when the people don't want something and outright reject it as such, they will stick to that premise to the bitter end.
What they showed of Fable again did impress me no end as rightly it should given the Playground Games involvement. Going to keep a keen eye on it for sure.

So remember that game trailer at the end of the Game Awards that everyone was dunking on... well, the game just released and... things have turned a bit ugly:
5k reviews, 18% positive

The reviews are not encouraging:
The map is the size of Latvia but you only have 3 players so most of your time is spent running around the map looking for something to kill.

Re: General Gaming News
Is this just the usual jump on the band wagon review bombing or is it genuinely bad (other than that possible graphics bug)?

A little from column A, a little from column B. I was reading some of the Steam reviews earlier and it is a prime example of why Steam should have a middle ground between thumbs up and thumbs down. A fair few reviewers liked some of what they had played but also had issues with some parts of the game.Animalmother wrote: โTue Jan 27, 2026 10:52 amIs this just the usual jump on the band wagon review bombing or is it genuinely bad (other than that possible graphics bug)?

I donโt think Iโll miss it. The first game was fine at best; the second game was worse. Itโs about time Obsidian rediscovered why theyโre regarded as RPG experts as the last time I think they came close to that was with Pillars of Eternity 2, eight years ago. Not great.

Well it's up to Mixed on Steam (from Overwhelmingly Negative lol), and looking at some user reviews seems like it's made a big difference.Lenny Solidus wrote: โFri Jan 30, 2026 9:11 pmhttps://kotaku.com/highguard-big-update ... 2000664584

Re: General Gaming News
The biggest sin you can make upon releasing something like this in such a saturated f2p market is not making it abundantly clear what type of game it is that you are bringing to the masses. They clearly failed on this part beyond all comprehension because I've never seen such numerous bouts of all out confusion surrounding a new release being posted all over the bloody place. Then even watching a live stream of it in action only served to make that same reception go straight into the stratosphere.
Besides the deathly silent wake that was left beyond the initial trailers release really did a number on it too only more emphasising that same building confusion of what exactly it was we were all meant to be excited to soon be playing - leaving the devs to come out with statements such as 'the game will speak for itself on release'. I mean sure numbers wise gamers flock to something new clambering for that all important first taste and it was clear to see from the off that it was certainly, a game. 100k people had their taste and now it's sat at 3k playing even after altering the original formula. I just don't see it ever moving beyond its original oddly cobbled together design work as it is, made even more prominent that it's come from both ex Apex and Titanfall developers that instantly set some very, very unrealistic expectations inserting a trailer for it as they did at the very height of the TGA fiasco that will go down in history as how not to reveal your new game to the world. And it's a true shame all round tbh because being placed in that position is near impossible to truly be able to ever deliver upon.
For me, I don't quite understand what it is they were thinking combing so many obvious tropes from other much better far more long term established games and going well here is our take - a purely nonsensical visual mishmash with hardly enough combatants to even get into enjoying a good scrap before you are back on the back of a horse riding around an empty overly clustered and yes f2p but still instantly obscenely dated looking game world. I knew immediately the game was just not for me.
I genuinely don't understand given the actual heart of the game they designed it around how they can realistically change it up enough to bring back any true interest, which given the calibre of those involved in its still confusing as hell but now with extra players type design frame and it just honestly kinda sucks.
Maybe what they come up with next will be different. Who knows. And I don't mean to piss all over it or anything I know many are actually enjoying what is on offer, I'm merely stating that to enter the free to play market with such a turbulent release in how they handled it can only serve as a lesson to all. Define your vision.

Not saying that this was indeed what brought about mtxs' inclusion to the heights it now is, but perhaps a small seed was no doubt notably planted in said conversation.
Also, looks like Borderlands 4 for Switch 2 may have been ditched.
