Meanwhile, on the surface, everyone's sitting around having a relaxing smoke around a pile of beheaded corpses, while the stables burn down in the background.

You swing on the rope toward the hole and catch it with your feet, then carefully slither inside.

Argh! Someone's covered it with a net curtain, made from human hair and broken glass! You'll need to test GRIT (d20-1) to push through it!

Out of interest, in which direction does the tunnel lead from the well?

You crawl through the net-curtain, unscathed, and find yourself in a tight passage.

Striking another match, you're able to see this curves to the right and you follow it until it opens out into a small natural chamber. In this chamber are three human corpses, leaning against the wall. They look like they've been here a long time, though they might be worth looting all the same...

In this chamber is another tunnel, leading off in another direction.

In the direction of the main ranch building.

I’ll search the corpses, but I think it’s clear that Manny has probably escaped to the main building, so after looting what I can I’ll return to the surface and report back that we may have a way in.

Ha, yeah, that was kind of where I thought he was headed.

While we're waiting for CK to rejoin us, I'll go to the south of the main building and see if I can't quietly pry one of the boards from the windows using my new knife, to try to see what's going on inside.

One of the corpses, whose name was apparently Rolf Miser, has folded in its pocket a deed to the ownership of their race horse.

Another has a business card for the company Miser & Sons, owners of Horsehead Ranch.

The other has a journal, containing a list of names, many of which have been crossed out.

All right, test SLICK (d20+1) to climb back up the rope and out!

All right, first, tell me which window, and then test GRIT (d20+1) to try this out.

There's two on the south wall, right, so I guess I'll go for the nearest one to the rest of the ranch, the right-hand one.

6 + 1 = 7 to climb back out (or not!)

Would you like to spend your Ace to re-roll that? ¬_¬

Actually there aren't!

Here, here's the (now corrected) map:

Image

There's twelve windows: five on the west wall, five on the east wall, two on the north wall, but there's none on the south wall.
