Also, interesting that Eny is having luck with the stealth as it's the one part of the game I'd say hasn't been working for me at all. It feels like even in pitch-darkness, with my headlamp off, while crouched and sneaking through undergrowth, enemies still see me from half a mile away. The only thing that works for me is breaking line of sight, but it feels like as soon as I get in the open again I become visible to any nearby enemies regardless of the above circumstances

Apparently the devs have posted that the A-Life isn't working as it should and they're looking into it.

Also, thanks to the random commenter in the YT video I watched this morning, for pointing out that as well as pressing L - as the game tells you - to turn on the lamp, you can also press middle mouse button - which it doesn't.
It was driving me up the wall that was apparently one keybind that is hard-locked and you can't change (it doesn't even appear in the list of rebindable keys). Now, if I could only rebind the melee attack button (V, really?!)

I must say the A life hasn’t felt as good as in previous games so pleased that it is a known issue.Sly Boots wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 7:55 amApparently the devs have posted that the A-Life isn't working as it should and they're looking into it.

Am with you too on stealth, it doesn’t work for me just now. Either everyone instantly knows your location, or you can go about head-shotting with impunity. I had the military base in Garbage and after the insane gun battle before getting into the base, once in many of the baddies were stood about and even when I had 2-3 in a room I was able to pop them in the back of the head one after another with the remaining enemies not responding at all.

Another thing I've just learned is that scattered around the map you'll occasionally find photos of people (I just found one in the reception area of the detention centre in Garbage) - I assumed these were pics of the devs, but apparently they're fallen Ukrainian soldiers.

Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
The Devs have an upcoming mod tools release too, they are heavily into the STALKER soup community, it has driven their development of the game with just how much interest there has been in the mods for the originals, they are even au fait with the standalone mod versions available. It is so refreshing to support them in their endeavours.

Yeah the key-binding thing is a mess, trying to get my detector out with one key-press is absolute ballache, although I did find the torch early on on M3 which is where I would have it usually too, but with mods that fully support full key-binding usually. Stealth is indeed hit and miss, I can only take an enemy from behind, keeping out of line of sight for as long as possible, there seems to be a charge-up before detection type thing going on....I wouldn't say it works as intended, but has got me out of a couple of scrapes.

Another one to get rid of that awful white flickering when you have radiation exposure - essential!

Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
You've got to love the emergent story-telling in this.
Just had a situation where on the way to a mission I saw a half-wrecked building and went to check it out. Inside I found a blowhard calling himself "The Legend" filling a load of inexperienced stalkers with bullshit stories. When I talked to him I got the option to either give him 1.5k to hear one of his pearls of wisdom, or threaten him. Being a cheapskate, I chose the latter, whereupon he cacked himself and told me he knew the location of a 'legendary cache' he'd give me directions to if I left him alone.
This sounded like a good deal, and the cache wasn't too far... however it was in the middle of a fairly high-radiation area, but I had some anti-rad so I went through it towards the cache. When I got there, it just had a hunk of stale bread and broken pistol. Feeling vengeful I made my way back to the building, only to find The Legend and all his mates had scarpered.
"Fair enough," I thought, "just another day in the Zone," and started making my way onwards to my original mission objective.
Only a few hundred yards away though, an emission started, so I high-tailed it back to the building, where earlier I'd spied a basement that looked like it should offer enough cover.
I was just settling in to wait out the emission, when two other stalkers came belting down the stairs and huddled in the corner. When I went up to talk to them, I discovered it was none other than The Legend, and one bodyguard. After a moment's deliberation I shot him in the face with a shotgun, followed by his guard, and looted their corpses. To my satisfaction, The Legend was carrying a rather nice assault rifle, which I sold for several thousands credits.
That was pretty cool

Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
One thing I think needs to be modded (there may already be one available, I'll need to check) is the rate of equipment degradation. It's reached the point where the cost of repairing things is outstripping my ability to earn cash. I even had a sell a cool sniper rifle I found because the repair cost was crippling - talking about 5k+ after doing a mission where I didn't even equip, let alone shoot, the bloody thing.
It feels like equipment gets damaged even if you're not using it?
Also, it feels like my gun starts jamming every five second even at around 90% condition, which has resulted in my death a few times.
I might have a look around on Nexus mods...

Nice, I've downloaded a few more mods, to reduce the rate of weapon degradation and also reduce repair costs a bit, should make those aspects a bit less punishing.

In case anyone missed it (as I did) , there's a scoped assault rifle at the top of the water tower near the stalker camp. It evens the odds somewhat when low level human enemies.
Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
Yeah, it's tied in with one of the missions you can pick up at the main camp, can't remember from who though (it's either the barman, shopkeeper or tinkerer)Animalmother wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 5:01 pmIn case anyone missed it (as I did) , there's a scoped assault rifle at the top of the water tower near the stalker camp. It's the bar man looking for money off another guy trapped near the water tower. Where's the tinkerer located?
Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
He's next door to the general store, it looks a bit like a garage, should be marked on the minimap. You basically come out of the shop, turn left and it's right there.Animalmother wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 6:16 pmIt's the bar man looking for money off another guy trapped near the water tower. Yes, even on Veteran there is a vast amount of balancing needed. I hate that as soon as you get above hip height dogs and fleshes go out of sight — jump down, hop up, kill, repeat is tedious...I don't want it easy because the gunfights I am having are so realistic I cream my pants, but I don't want to spend 3 mags on a flesh either...
