The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes

Not related to our campaign, but just wanted to say I've been suitably inspired by our intrepid adventures/murderous crime spree (delete as appropriate) to decide to start a mini campaign for the family.

I'll be honest, it's going to be pretty fast and loose with the actual rules (eldest is 8, youngest is 5) with an emphasis on stuff that will make the kids laugh and general good times. My eldest got almost scarily invested really quickly and we spent a good half-hour this afternoon creating her character, including (at her insistence) looking for a character portrait online and cutting it out to glue to the sheet.

I've got a pack of various dice arriving in a few days, after that reckon we'll give it a go

The one-shot adventure I ran for my family this Christmas was incredibly loose with the rules for the sake of my nieces (8 and 10), but I was amazed how quickly they took to it. I think it comes more naturally to kids because most of it is just making up a story, and they don’t have the shackles of adulthood where make-believe is seen as deviant in some circles.

Also they were instantly sold on it when I told them their familiar was basically a Harry Potter patronus that could change into whatever small animal they wanted.

My eldest has opted to be a druid with a white wolf companion (the wolf has more backstory than she does), and when we went through starting spells she picked each one that allows her to befriend, speak to and control animals.

I already know she's going to end up at the head of a terrifying beast army, the only question is how long it takes before she's using them to stage a bloody coup on the kingdom

Monday or Tuesday would be perfect for me as the missus and bairns will be visiting the in-laws for a few days and I'll be free as the wind.

I do love dice. I wouldn't say I collect them, but if I see a nice set I'll buy them in the same way that a geologist might buy a nice stone. I'll try and get a photo of my ever-increasing dice horde later.

Pretty sure I have the same dice. Bought them off Amazon for pretty cheap and got each set in a nice little bag.
