Re: General Gaming News
I want to be excited for that, really, but frankly I'll wait until there's actual evidence it'll ever get released. The only big, exciting Star Wars games that have actually ever seen the light of day over the last decade have been the Respawn Jedi games. Everything else has had something between a credible rumour to a pre-rendered teaser, and then an announcement that development has been stopped, or the studio has been shut down. A remake of one or more of The Old Republic games have been among them.
Re: General Gaming News
Last I heard, the KOTOR 1 remake is still alive, albeit only because a lone developer raised his head to insist it wasn't entirely dead after rumours that it'd been shut down. Not confidence inspiring.
Looking at the headlines from the Game Awards, there was a tonne of interesting stuff announced. Probably most excited for Solasta II in March - the demo was a huge leap up from the first game.
Re: General Gaming News
Quite a strong year for announcements and trailers at the Game Awards for a change. Granted most of the trailers were CGI guff, but there's definitely a lot of stuff that has piqued my interest.
Re: General Gaming News
It could all be coincidence I suppose, it's not like the AAA games industry is in a particularly great state overall, but it does feel like there's something rotten somewhere in the control over the Star Wars franchise. It affects the films and TV shows too; projects get announced publicly and then unceremoniously cancelled.
There are a few things from last night I'm interested in. They're finally doing a Warhammer 40K version of the Total War franchise. Total War is a series I've always *wanted* to like, but it just never managed to get its hooks in. They've done a few games set in the Warhammer fantasy setting which I've never been interested in, but I've said for a while that if they ever did 40K I'd give it a go.
Star Wars Galactic Racer probably isn't something I'd buy, but I do like a nice Wipeout-esque hover racer. If they get the mechanics right it could be pretty good, and the pod-racing game from the N64 era seems to be pretty fondly remembered.
Ontos isn't really my genre of choice, but it looks extremely well done.
I don't think The Game Awards is really where I get my preferred announcements from. It's all AAA-looking stuff because the only studios that can afford to show a trailer there are backed by major publishers, and AAA-looking stuff isn't really my go-to anymore. It's the smaller indie stuff that mostly gets me interested these days, the games that hit you with a gorgeous pixelart style and gameplay that feels familiar. I don't think they can afford the millions of dollars it apparently costs to show their new titles off.
Re: General Gaming News
Yep. The games I've played the most and enjoyed the most in the last few years have been largely unsung indie titles. There are still AAA games I play and enjoy, but they're few and far between.
Re: General Gaming News
I just saw that the studio creating the new Star Wars game is supposedly only 5 months old.
Nuts that they've dropped a big announcement trailer for a game if that is true.

That totally out of left field is this even real or am I just that tired Badger title was game of the show for me. Just marvellous.
Concord 2 looked kinda cool too, what with classes that do actual environmental damage and everyone riding in on a horsee.

Re: General Gaming News
If you gold me this was a Cyberpunk mod I wouldn't doubt it. Looks fun all the same.
Incidentally, Cyberpunk 2077 came out 5 years ago this week.
Re: General Gaming News
Continuing on the cyberpunk theme, something I missed last week. Replaced, the stunning 2.5D side-scrolling adventure I'd wishlisted nearly 4 years ago finally has a release date (12/03/26).
There's still not a good idea of what the gameplay's actually like, but I think you'll agree it's a bit of a looker. I think 2.5D is my favourite stylistic innovation of the last decade - I just hope we get the Chrono Trigger-esque Threads of Time next year too.
