I give a thumbs up as I strain myself trying to calculate 7000 divided by 4.

Lorne replies back to Zola's (assumed ¬_¬) confirmation of the job.

If you're still in the Arcs, take the Hope Tower Bridge to Crown Island and keep heading down through west South Central towards Inkwell Heights.

The VV drug-lab is right on the border of the Edda Crawl slum, on the waterfront. Like I said, it's right outside Cy limits.

Once you've got Lukas Tosk, contact me again and I'll give you delivery instructions!

Good luck, buddy!

Here's the location on your CyMap:

Doze will suggest to the crew they head for a tech shop of some description, where she can sell the flyer drone and reinvest in a cyberdeck.

“Lotsa skulls to crack too.”

If we do swing by a shop, I’d like to pick up a multitool and some mechanical lockpicks for a total of 40c.

Did we spend all our cash at the start? Volley would like an EMP grenade if such a thing is available.

The punks' taxi leaves the Arcs district via bridge to Crown Island and zooms through the network of arterial roadways that criss-cross the South Central sprawl.

The G0-dust winds have died away, leaving the sky the colour of a dead holo-channel, lit by the glow of a thousand neon signs.

Soon enough, they find a tech supplier in Epoch Plaza.

Sen purchases a mechanical lockpick and a multitool, leaving him with 10¤

The shop-owner happily purchases Doze's modified and repaired flyer drone for 1000¤.

"You want a Cyberdeck*, eh?" the owner says to Doze.

"I can sell you a regular one for 100¤. It's got four app-slots! Or, I can get you a Cyberdeck+ for 1000¤, with seven app-slots!" he grins.

He leans in close, whispering.

"I also know a Net site, where you can get apps for it, but I warn you...they're not cheap!"

* Cyberdecks are portable computer units that can hack into machines and software alike. It can also be supplemented with specialist apps...though these are illegal and expensive.

I'll check out the available apps before deciding on which deck to get, it could make sense to get the cheaper one with an app or two included rather than the more expensive one without...

The supplier messages the Net site address to Doze's RCD, who accesses it via the same way:

Code: Select all

stp://cynet{144.168.1.1.16.16}[APP_SMITH]

He browses the collection of apps. Not a single one is cheaper than 1000¤. He realises he will likely have to pull off a successful job before he can afford one.

Hm. Are there any other benefits to getting the more expensive deck, other than the additional app slots?

There are not. It's a rich hacker's toy.

You're mostly paying for the + sign.

In that case I'll take the cheaper one for 100c, and I'll buy a bunch of other stuff, tbc once I've had a full peruse of the shopping list in the other thread...

Ok, so with the remaining 900c, I'll get:

Some electronic lockpicks (300)
Micro torch cutter (150)
Surveillance drone (250)
A noisemaker (65)
A couple of EMP grenades (120), which I'll chuck over to Volley who is eyeing them up like a hungry dog at a butcher's window
Some zip-ties (2)

Which I think leaves me with 13 creds, which I'll just hang onto for now.

Aside from the drone, which Doze will hang onto, and the grenades she chucks to Volley, the other items are intended to be added to the crew's general pool of available tools for the mission, for anyone to use as and when required.

Doze is loading up with hardware like Arnie at the military surplus store in Commando, and Sen shuffles behind like an unruly child playing with his poundshop multitool.

I don't expect the buttons actually do anything other than make satisfying beeps.

(Actually, I'd assumed it was some kind of electronic multitool, but I guess it's more likely that it's like the cheapest Swiss army knife, with a tiny blade and that thing for removing stones from a horse's hoof.)
