Part of me suspects this is a planned marketing tactic. They know how many people would be logging in over today and tomorrow because beta access is restricted to those who have a code for it, and therefore they'll know exactly how many accounts would have access and they can assume that most of those will want to play. Lots of people posting the big queue number = more apparent excitement. So either it's planned, or they just didn't want to pay for enough servers to meet that easily anticipated demand, which won't be a good look if it continues.

For all the bluster about being burnt multiple times by EA with the Battlefield games and no one should pre-order the game...it's topping the pre-order charts on both Steam and PlayStation. I'll hopefully get a go at the open beta on Saturday.

Called it. Got back home, Dave had grabbed me a beta key. Booted up, got straight into a game with no queue whatsoever.

Then proceeded to have an absolutely miserable ten minute game where I had to catch myself from uninstalling it, and giving it another try when more prepared to actually play instead of seeing how long the queue is.

Not exactly gaming news, but it's certainly related - Digital Foundry have gone fully independent! :o

It'll be a shame not to see them on Eurogamer anymore, but this is a big deal for them and they've certainly earned it.

Wow, they escaped ign! No easy task I’d imagine.

Also, The Division 2 devs will be at Gamescom, and it looks like snow is finally making its way to the game...

Assassin's Creed Shadows was Europe's best-selling new game of 2025, beating competition from Split Fiction, Monster Hunter Wilds, Mario Kart World and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

In data shared with The Game Business ahead of Gamescom 2025, 71 million PC and console games have been sold across the major European markets so far this year (data up until July 28), which is a drop of 6% over the same period the year before.

This includes 52 million digital games (-3% year-on-year), and 19.7 million physical games (-9%).

The information comes from GSD, the official European charts company that tracks sales of PC and console games across the continent, including both digital and physical games. You can read more about GSD below.

In total, 74% of the PC and console market across Europe was digital, which is 2% up over the same period the year before.

As one of the few folk (around here that is) who actually took a chance on the game (currently at rank 27) I'm personally rather happy to see this news. I think Ubisoft crafted an excellent game, I'd even say it is their most comprehensive stealth experience in the series to date. I've been having a great time with it and do so hope others give it a chance at some point too.

Been enjoying the remaster of DoW1 a lot this week. Quietly optimistic that 4 is heading in the right direction even if that developers last attempt at an RTS was somewhat lackluster.

I'd never play this but it's a very interesting setting.

This one caught my attention.
“I ain’t a thief — I’m McGuyver, underwater survivor!
Down in the depths, I’m a deep sea diver.”
But real talk, I was lyin’ like a scuba supplier —
Now it's time to bolt like a getaway driver!"

They could have gone with The Korean War but I suppose the tech is still too close to WW2.
