How close are they to the door?

The first voice is very close to the door. The second a little fainter.

But only Cadaver Kid can hear this, on account of him leanin' his ear up against it.
My fire is more than can be made with forests,
My state more base than are the basest valleys;
I wish no evenings more to see, each evening;
Shamed, I hate myself in sight of mountains,
And stop mine ears, lest I grow mad with music.

I was just wondering if we stack up near the door I could fire a shoot through it with the rifle and try kill whoever is behind it.

"Tarnation, these ain't even the Loudmouth boys," Doc thinks to himself.

So, calling upon his renowned bluster ability, he'll call down the chimney: "This is the sheriff. We have the building surrounded. We ain't here for you boys but that don't mean we won't take you down as well if'n you get in our way.

"So, my advice would be to drop your weapons, and come out with your hands up. After that, you'll be free to go."

This is a viable strategy.

A 9 and a 19!

I think I might have a -1 modifier on Wits, though, so 8 and 18 I guess.

Something to keep in mind, lest there be any confusion, is that the voices behind the door off the main hall are not the same voices that Doc is listening to.

The 18 is still a pass! They're buyin' that you're the Sheriff.

I'm gonna roll on 2d6 to see how they react...

2+1 = 3

...and it transpires they're in a Sheriff-killin' mood!

This is what happens:

After shoutin' down the chimney, Doc listens to hear their heated response.

"Oh shoot, it's the goddamn sheriff!"

"Sheriff Boone?! How'd he get here so fast?!"

"Nevermind that, I ain't bein' taken' alive! To hell with the bounties! Let's kill that son-of-a-bitch now and bust our way outta here!"

Now, one of them is about to shoot up the chimney! Test LUCK, Doc (d20+3) to avoid being shot in the face!

There's a resounding crack of a revolver that echoes up the chimney but the shot whistles past Doc's ear!

Now some chaos is going to unfold...but I will be busy for a while so will write it up later... ;)

I'll relay what I heard to the others (quietly).

I kind of want to shot the door and see what happens but I'll wait for a more tactical plan to happen.

After the shot comes up the chimney, narrowly missing Doc's face, Doc hears the muffled patter of footsteps down below but doesn't know where those three fellas have gone.

Meanwhile, in the main hallway, the other three members of the gang are standing outside the "first door on the left".

Cornelius Cumflutter III is itching to shoot his hunting rifle through the door...

If you try this, it's a SLICK test (d20+1) or you can wait until the others present a different solution.

8+1
Shit
It's a lead slug that's going to deform as soon as it passes through the door. It could end up anywhere...

Would you like to use an Ace to re-roll that?
