Amazing how they can pick someone in a week when the last farce of a contest got dragged on for months all for public spectacle on TV.
I can't believe the lettuce actually won.

I can't understand why they're changing their process when the last time turned out so well.
In fairness she's been in office for such a short amount of time that it's probably worth just going with the runner up from last time.

Why don't they call a general election? The last 2 useless shits got in by failing upwards and weren't elected.

If Hulk Hogan fell out of a window and broke all his bones he wouldn’t agree to defend his title that weekend against The Ultimate Warrior.

Because they'd end up with less than 100 seats on the current polling. The Tory party are allowed to almost ruin the country and keep having a crack at it don't you know.Animalmother wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 2:12 pmWhy don't they call a general election? Funnily enough the last leadership election lasted longer than the resultant PM (54 days versus 45).
Rumours are Boris is going to run for it again but I'd be very surprised if he won the vote among the MPs to get onto the members ballot. The membership would 100% put him in again if given the vote, they're desperate for him back.
Re: The Absolute State Of It - It's The UK Politics Thread!
I don’t think they can get away with not calling a general election at this point, even if their hand has to be forced with a vote of no confidence. They have zero mandate, they’ve totally fucked the economy and our national credibility and they’ve expended any and all talent in the party. I think most of the party has accepted that their time is up and that the only way they can survive long term is to retreat and regroup.
Re: The Absolute State Of It - It's The UK Politics Thread!
The problem with that is that nobody can force them to throw a general election, and it's absolutely not in their interests to do so as they will almost certainly end up losing as they've entirely ruined their credibility. They'll spend the next two years attempting to salvage their reputation.

This. We do not have a written constitution, so in theory a general election is only granted when the incumbent government feels obliged to. The 5 year rule is not set in law, but it is expected.Raid wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 3:32 pmThe problem with that is that nobody can force them to throw a general election, and it's absolutely not in their interests to do so as they will almost certainly end up losing as they've entirely ruined their credibility. Looking around the world I believe we have the worst set of leaders and politicians since 1945. This economic crash is another example of the mainstream economy paying the price to save the finanical markets and to keep the status quo of a globalist agenda. Fuck the little man, so long the hedge funds are OK. Its complete bullshit that the markets crashed on £60B borrowing when they did not bat an eyelid when the Govt borrowed up to £400B during Covid ( https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/re ... /cbp-9309/). What about the supposed crash after Brexit that did not materialise. Fuck off. They saw an opportunuty to shorten the £ (because they could see it coming) and the idiots at the BoE panicked. For years they kept interest rates artificially low in fear the economy was too fragile, now when we need rates low, they increased them to secure the £. Basically they did it to secure their pension portfolios.
As for the UK suffering from high interest rates I looked it up
UK 2.25%
USA 3.25%
France 2.4%
Italy 4.14%
Spain 2.92%
Germany 1.8%
As for the Labour Party. Wtf are they going to do? The tax burden in the UK is already at the highest in 40 years. All Labour will do is tax even more and distribute. Tax and distribute, tax and dsitribute. That is all they know.
All the institutions fucked this up. From QE, to cheap borrowing, to wasting money on idiot white elephants instead of planning for food and energy self reliance. The globalists are at the last throw of the dice without appreciating globalism is dead already.
Apart from that - have a nice day everyone
Seriously fellas - prepare for WWIII next year. If we make it to 2024 I will be surprised.

I thought one could be triggered with a vote of no confidence which goes to the whole parliament and requires a simple majority?Raid wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 3:32 pmThe problem with that is that nobody can force them to throw a general election, and it's absolutely not in their interests to do so as they will almost certainly end up losing as they've entirely ruined their credibility. EDIT - Here we go:
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... -liz-trussA formal confidence motion is lost
Under the new system, put in place by the new Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act, an election can be called by the traditional method of a confidence vote – either the government tables one saying MPs have confidence in it, or the opposition tables one saying they do not.
Johnson’s 2019 majority of 80 has been winnowed down by byelections and MPs losing the whip, but it is still 71. This route would only bring an election if enough Conservatives decided they had had enough and would trust their fate to the public.

Ok, there's a mechanism by which a GE can be called, but it still involves a large number of Conservative MPs voting to put themselves out of power, because they're almost certain to lose it at this stage. They have a 71 seat majority.
