Gotta drum up the extra business somehow.

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
Don't know about you guys but I said right at the start of this when we saw how badly they were handling it that this was all going to end in tiers.
Re: The Covid-19 Thread
The new rules have posed a conundrum for me, because in a couple of weeks I'm meant to be on holiday in the Lake District with my parents (booked long before covid reared its ugly head). It can now only be refunded if we're actively prevented from going due to the rules, and frankly that would be my preference, but that would only happen (as best I can tell) if Cumbria goes into a tier 3 alert, which forces hospitality to shut down. My parents and I form a support bubble and are in separate tier 2 areas, and it's not entirely clear whether we'd be prevented from going if one of our areas moved to tier 3, or whether it would technically still be allowed.
What a fucking mess. If we do end up going because the rules don't specifically prevent it, it's going to have to involve no pubs, no restaurants and probably not even much bimbling round the towns. I've got a dodgy back and knee and they're both generally knackered (my dad recently recovering from pneumonia), so that precludes any walks more challenging than a 1 in 5000 incline. It's going to be a riot.

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
Where are you hearing that? I've seen that the scientists advising the government are heavily arguing for a pre-Christmas lockdown and murmurs of a 'tier 4' which may involve additional closures, but everything from the government at the moment indicates that they're still strongly in favour of localised measures and no full national lockdown.
Re: The Covid-19 Thread
I've seen plenty of news outlets reporting that it's being considered, but I hardly think that counts as news. Surely a second full national lockdown was always a possibility, they just weren't acknowledging it for political and economic reasons.
Either way it'll make feck all difference to me; my job didn't close the first time, it won't close the second time either.

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
It seems that the government has leaked their press briefings to the papers that a full lockdown is being planned for next Wednesday, currently the details are still being decided.
I was out with work the other day and the chap I was with said he thought Boris had done the best he could given how extreme and unorthodox the situation has been and that he'd still vote Tory even with the current crop of ministers in place because Labour probably wouldn't have done a much better job. I was so close to listing everything that they've botched since January and how they've been more concerned with their PR optics than actually looking after the population, but I can't even bring myself to respond to comments like that anymore. England is a lost cause.

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
Yeah, I had a similar experience when a customer at work said "I love Boris, he's ace." I managed to hold my tongue.
Re: The Covid-19 Thread
The open corruption and cronyism, the fairly overt privatisation of much of the NHS while simply keeping the name, to say nothing of the total and utter fucking incompetence shown at every fucking turn, if the country had a single ounce of sense this would be the Tory party swan song before the lot of them were tried for their crimes against the populace.
I also despair.

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
So apparently Johnson is set to announce a month-long lockdown for England at 5pm (that's the press conference time, not the start of the lockdown).
Re: The Covid-19 Thread
Is he incapable of turning up on time for his own fucking press conference? Late every time.
Re: The Covid-19 Thread
It was already delayed once from 4 till 5.
