The heat is concentrated at the back and the left side/underside depending on how its setup. Everywhere else I've found to be consistently cold even on load. Nowhere near as bad as my ps4 which could fry an egg.

I'd have slight concerns about the heat because the PS4 tended to get louder as time went on as the cooling became less efficient and the fans had to run faster.

It came this morning...I'm actually shocked!! Only ordered it Saturday

Setup was very easy and it's practically silent when running. Downloading Control to see how it runs.

During the setup it informed me that my tv can only play the games at 60fps and not 120. This is fair enough but I still made a face like a petulant child.

I still kind of want both, mainly the PS5, but also the Series X for the Gamepass component.

I've got no room in the living room though and probably can squeeze another two or three years out of the PS4 with the amount of games I have left to play on it though.

Control looks very very pretty with Ray Tracing turned on.

This is what I’ve been telling myself, I want to hold off till the inevitable half steps that can handle RT 4k at 60 or higher but I’m like a junkie fighting the urge every time I hear tips of new stock drops. A new Naughty Dog before that would probably rip my precarious veil of self control. :(

Some farting about with different games...

Skyrim with several graphical mods and the frame rate uncapped runs smooth as butter. Load times are reduced but it isn't a huge difference. Might try some of the mods that crashed the game on me before. Must try and finish the main story now..

Control with Ray Tracing looks fantastic but runs at 30fps. Turn it off and game runs at 60fps, still looks good but no fancy reflections or lighting effects. Definitely leaving it turned on.

Battlefield 5 is a surprise. The game normally took fucking ages to get to the menu screen and then another age to spawn into a game. Now it's a few seconds and you jump right into the match. It could be my imagination but the sound also seems to have improved. Breathes new life into the game for me. I always assumed it was just shoddy network performance at EA's end but the older consoles just are able for the game.

Not the most exciting games to test with I know but I'm going to give Red Dead 2 a look later and maybe Doom Eternal.

I'm still shite at it, no improvement in technology can help that unfortunately.

I don't think this was a feature on the Xbox One X (I could never get it to work) but you can plug an ordinary pair of headphones into the controller and play the sound through that. Fuck me sideways, the difference is immense in games like Battlefield 5! I'm hearing a level of sound like nothing else I've experienced in a game. Explosions, gunshots and Stuka's wailing overhead is just epic. It also gives you a massive advantage of hearing enemy footsteps. It's a bit of a sensory overload but well worth it.
