I figure the same laws that protect against deep fakes should apply, because it's a similar process with a similar result. Still, I feel like Geralt is a poor example as he's one of the most monotone characters I can think of, and I suspect it's a lot easier for an AI to replicate that. It's usually inflection and pitch changes that speech synthesis struggles with.
Eurogamer have a piece on it. The response from the upper management was utterly atrocious.
And there's a clip from Blizzcon 2010 where a woman asks at the q&a whether they can have some less sexualised female characters and the Blizz panel just laugh at her and make smarmy jokes about what else they would possibly look like. A proper little "You've had your feminist question in the spotlight, move on now love and let the men talk" moment.
Truly atrocious stuff. It always seems to be American companies embroiled in all this crap, I think there's something deeply nasty rooted in their corporate culture that likely goes far beyond just the games industry. As if I needed any further reasons not to play Acti Blizz games anymore.
