Square announced this morning that they are to sell their western studios and around 50 IPs to Embracer group for just $300m. This will leave Square free to focus on investing in blockchain, AI and cloud gaming.

This deal seems like a steal for the IP alone and then you get Crystal Dynamic, Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix Montréal as well. I think it's a good move for anyone who likes Eidos catalogue of games as it is unlikely Square were ever going to make another Deus Ex, Thief or Legacy of Kain game.

Boy, it's a real shame that all of those franchises have been severely underperforming and therefore nowhere near as valuable as Square-Enix would have expected.
