Recently discovered this project:

I'm a massive Meshuggah fan and usually the stuff that mimics them just doesn't hit the same way, but this EP is legitimately excellent. Absolutely fierce production.

I joined this band late last year and have my first gig with them at the end of this month.

I was already a fan and it's been super fun.
“I ain’t a thief — I’m McGuyver, underwater survivor!
Down in the depths, I’m a deep sea diver.”
But real talk, I was lyin’ like a scuba supplier —
Now it's time to bolt like a getaway driver!"

I'm still into DUNGEON SYNTH and lo-fi experimental black metal.

This is one of my favourite examples, published just ten days ago:

My fire is more than can be made with forests,
My state more base than are the basest valleys;
I wish no evenings more to see, each evening;
Shamed, I hate myself in sight of mountains,
And stop mine ears, lest I grow mad with music.

(Not really metal per se, but metalcore? Metal adjacent?)

Went to see Trivium and Bullet for my Valentine last week, touring in celebration of their albums turning twenty years old.

I've never really "listened to" Trivium despite liking all the component parts. I know a fair few of their tracks when I hear them, if not by name. They put on a good show if you're into their schtick. One of our little group pointed something out that I'd not put my finger on: Matt Heafy seems to only have one tone of distorted vocals, there's very little variance. Probably why I start to lose interest when I try to listen to their albums.

I was mainly there to relive my early 2000s with BfmV. I think the last time I saw them they were a lowly support band, no idea who for. Now they're playing arenas to 10s of thousands of folks. They've done well over the last 20 years! Particularly enjoyed them playing Hand of Blood since it's one of my favourites – last time it got interrupted when a crowd barrier broke, glad to get an uninterrupted version this time! Also of note was the crowd singing the start of Tears Don't Fall:

And finally, I love how absolutely ridiculous people are. Those not into this sort of music tend to say the folks look "scary", that it's really aggressive and angry… Meanwhile the folks listening to these bands are just dying to join a pretend row boat. :lol:

Love me some Nekrogoblikon so was a bit ;_; when Nicky decided to hang up his mic. They've replaced him with Johnny Gobs on clean vocals and Dickie Allen (of Infant Annihilator fame) for the goblin vocals and this is their new tracks....

Its not bad, I think Johns clean singing is technically much better than Nicky's but its also that typical radio friendly clean metal vocal that I'm a bit sick of, it lacks character I guess. Dickie handles the goblin vocal fine, as you would expect he would. :p I don't hate it, I don't love it, it feels a bit coverbandy but doesn't it always when a band swaps out a long time singer?

Nekro was one of my take away bands from Bloodstock. I thought they were awesome.
I honestly can't remember so much 'nice' singing in their songs. Defo sounds weird though. Too polished :)

Oh man I get you completely, I detest that vocal style, it does absolutely nothing for me. I recently travelled up to Scarborough for a weekend with some mates, and my mate who kindly drove loves his pop-punk - I swear every fucking singer had that same whiny vocal style.

I've now found myself hopelessly addicted to SUNN O))), particularly this song, Between Sleipnir's Breaths:

My fire is more than can be made with forests,
My state more base than are the basest valleys;
I wish no evenings more to see, each evening;
Shamed, I hate myself in sight of mountains,
And stop mine ears, lest I grow mad with music.
