Pitch Black, Chronicles and Riddick remain some of my favourite sci-fi movies and the fact we have not yet had a new Riddick game given current gaming treatment is criminal, pun intended. I truly adore this entire universe and still think some of the world building done in Chronicles, although ridiculous to some was pretty damn great. Difficult to believe it's already been a full decade since the last Riddick movie.

Bring it on Diesel & Twohy.

Wow, they're really still using human trash-fire Ezra Miller? And while I'm not sure which comic series first used multiverse plots, this is just going to come across as derivative of the MCU's current storytelling. That they're putting Keaton's face front and centre in the trailer suggests they really are desperate for ticket sales.

I wonder if people go into remake projects like this thinking "yes, I can do better" or "yes, that'll pay the bills for a while". Jackson's trilogy isn't perfect, but it'll take some beating, and you have to assume that an audience will go in somewhat sceptical.

Have they explicitly said remakes? My impression was they just said there were lots of untold stories in the lore left to tell. So, more official canon from the Silmarillion etc (Prime didn't have the rights to include much of what Tolkien actually wrote), maybe a Moria-focused dwarf prequel etc.

I'd be very surprised if they tried to tread the same ground as the Jackson films.

Maybe that's just a badly written opening line in the article then; "fresh set of takes on Lord of the Rings" sounded to me like a remake, given that "Lord of the Rings" is one story set in that universe.

Yeah, I think it's just shorthand for the whole of Tolkien's works. I think the key part of the guys quote is:
“But for all the scope and detail lovingly packed into the two trilogies, the vast, complex and dazzling universe dreamed up by J.R.R. Tolkien remains largely unexplored on film. The opportunity to invite fans deeper into the cinematic world of Middle-earth is an honour, and we are excited to partner with Middle-earth Enterprises and Embracer on this adventure.”

I'm guessing whatever they make will be mostly CGI and nowhere near the scope of the Jackson films. He practically turned huge chunks of New Zealand into film sets.
