Obvious spoilers for Road to Perdition if you've not seen the film...
Spoiler
Truly one of the greatest gangster flicks and I think Mendes' finest work.

Outstanding movie. To be fair I can't think of a Tom Hanks movie I haven't enjoyed.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

There's a whole slew of treasure chest movie finds/iconic movie revisited moments/analysis featured on this very channel, I'm kind of shocked how little views they have accumulated in all honesty. I simply love the fact they explore items that we ourselves have viewed countless times as we fondly rewatch these classic movies, but often never wonder what happened to the items in question over the course of passing time studying them and matching them so intently as iconic relics in their own right.

Nice video. I've always wanted an Indy jacket, but I know full well that I'd look like a complete prat. :lol:

I remember sometime in my mid-teens asking for a leather jacket for my birthday as all the cool kids had them. The end result was something like Jeremy Clarkson might wear on a night out.

It's an experiment I've never repeated :lol:

I've compromised by accumulating an embarrassing number of leather jackets over the years. I bought a new one on holiday last week actually. #-o

Haven't gone full Indy yet though.

Yeah, I didn't need to write any of that.

:lol: It'll be remembered

I remember getting a fucking hideous leather jacket in the mid 90's as well. It was a shit brown colour and made from buffalo leather. It stank and weighed a ton. I thought I was the dogs bollocks wearing it.

I am a regular wearer of leather jackets. I love them.
My fire is more than can be made with forests,
My state more base than are the basest valleys;
I wish no evenings more to see, each evening;
Shamed, I hate myself in sight of mountains,
And stop mine ears, lest I grow mad with music.

That's the thing - I love wearing them, but I'm well aware that my sense of fashion is DOA. :lol: I wear them for me, not to impress anyone else.

If you're interested in this sort of thing, I'd recommend checking out Adam Savage's Tested channel, which does a fair number of looks at famous film props. Savage was a member of the Industrial Light and Magic model shop prior to doing Mythbusters, so the props they look at tend to be miniatures or science-fiction hand props, but they frequently get invited to a a US memorabilia auctioneers called Prop Store to look at all sorts of things. Savage has this boundless enthusiasm for the craft that goes into this stuff. They recently did an episode on the original ED-209 - the full-size on-set prop rather than the stop-motion miniature.

They also covered the Zorg ZF-1 weapon from The Fifth Element a few months back, and they cover the Blade Runner blaster quite frequently as making replicas of Deckard's original has been a life-long passion of Adam's.

Being of the model-building and painting persuasion, I find this sort of stuff fascinating. I'd love to have access to the kind of workshop Savage has, and the decades of experience he has at using all of this stuff. I have a long-term goal of having a collection of replica hand props from films (the lightsabers, the phasers, the tricorders etc.), but I need waaaay more time and energy to even start learning, so I'm making do with commercially available model kits for now. If I ever win the lottery however...

I hope that will include Qui-Gon's infamous communicator made from a Gillette women's razor.

Spoiler

Love how they spent $100,000 on a Jar-Jar costume that never ended up in movie and then skimped on a prop built from a very distinctive and popular household item. #-o

That's the thing; watching videos like these shows you just how many shortcuts model and prop makers use to get something that's barely recogniseable, but made up of readily available parts that make the process vastly quicker and more cost effective. Look at ILM's infamouse Universal Greeblie - a part that came in one specific version of a model German WW2 rail artillery piece that made it into almost every ILM mini for about thirty years.

The Gillette communicator looks like a pretty good sci-fi comms device if you don't know the original item - I can't say I recognised a women's razor back in 1999 and didn't find this out until years later.

My sister used to have one in the bathroom and we joked that it was the best a Jedi could get. ;)

There's a Qui Gon Trim joke to be made there somewhere.
