Getting a few bugs now...so treading carefully, found a guy in an electric anomaly field who needs leading out, but his dialogue options don't show so he is bugged out. I am backing up my entire save game folder regularly. Good practice with the STALKER system: hard saves, quick saves as stepping stones, folder backups as "checkpoints".

Found an old train depot being used as a base by a gang, was able to walk around freely and pickup anything useful I found. Another gang attacked and a little battle broke out (the AI sure loves to grenade spam). I kept at the edge trying not to get involved or catch a stray bullet. Once the attackers had been wiped out I moved in to loot the bodies and the previously neutral gang started attacking me. I've had this happen a few times, is there a glitch with the AI that views everything hostile after a fight?
I don't have hud or cross hairs, so everything is an enemy...until it isn't...

Surprised at how welcoming Duty was, Freedom must have had a softening affect on them, they don't seem so edgy these days.

I found a pretty cool 'legendary' artifact (I've found areas marked on the map as an anomalous field have these items, I've found three in total so far), that gives me +40kg carry weight... the only downside is it gives me a permanent drunk effect, I guess it makes sense with how much vodka I've been chugging to reduce radiation...

I had a legendary artefact that has radiation protection Maximum. It had no downsides. Means I can add more artefacts with medium radiation (red) with no adverse effects.

I've found precisely 2 artifacts so far, the one from the prolouge (which I lost after I sold the armour) and one I was asked to find by the guy in the windmill. Haven't come across a single other once since, even thought I throw bolts into anomolies on the regular.

Have you found The Ribs yet? Get your Detector out, that will give you indication they are about, they normally only popup when you are with detector in hand.

Bolts just help you get through some anomalies (eg make a gravity sphere momentarily disappear, or a patch of electricity discharge), they don't do anything to detect artifacts.

Small bunches of anomalies generally won't get you artifacts, but big patches will - when you come across a potential site you need to get your detector out in your hand - if an artifact is near the light will pulse, becoming more regular as you get closer to the artifact spawn point.

Also, artifacts are only visible when you're basically right on top of them, so get in close until the light on your detector is almost constant, and you should find one. I've found dozens so far lol, ranging from the incredibly useful to vendor trash.

Later in the game you'll start to get better detectors - I'm using one called Bear which also helpfully gives you a direction for artifacts, makes hunting them down so much easier.

I believe (but could be wrong) that looting the bodies of 'friends' (i.e. same group) is frowned upon by the survivors - could be you looted a dead 'friend'.

It has never been a series to hold your hand at all, which I quite like. Not having a clear how-to on the game mechanics adds a nice touch of real-world random discovery.

Made my way north today, intrigued to see the power station a bit closer up.

If anyone is curious about what the big orange swirly thing on the map is:
Spoiler
It's a big orange swirly thing!

Apparently you can load a corpse up with gear and then carry it to a location without a weight limit. Haven't tried it yet but might give it a go. Also changing the gamma to 70% makes nights brighter without effecting how the daytime looks.

Don't do the body thing. I loaded up a dead guy with guns and carried him back to town. The body disappeared and I am now permanently walking super slowly as if still carrying him. Time for a reload...

I am still messing about in Garbage, and have refined my loadout to Vintar, Cracker and silenced, magged M10, and as little else as possible — there is always somewhere to get a few consumables for anything else. I am about to take a long trek to The Swamps though, because I want my Veteran Vintar rifle...

I'm using a named Vintnar variant even 60 hours in and counting, really nice rifle... my only real complaint is the limited clip size (20) vs other assault rifles.

Finally able to ditch my much used double barrelled after finding a Cracker, much joy was expressed upon it's discovery. Also got the toy ball artifact which was a massive pain in the nuts to obtain.
