Haven't they already said that it won't have any microtransactions at all and that it isn't a live service game?

They have, but I simply don't trust EA to keep to that promise. If the game becomes popular, you know they'll try to monetise it somehow.

A decent look at the game.

Other than the stupid "Dancing Vader" or "Ewok Bobblehead" cockpit items that would be an immersion killer for me, it looks decent. I *think* the game capture has the player using a mouse as the main input device (which is something that you could technically do with the old X-Wing games, but it was awful), I'd expect it'll be a lot smoother with a joystick.

The Eurogamer preview said it doesn't support joysticks yet and works best with a controller.

You mean you didn't like rolling your mouse in one direction over and again, like you were grating cheese, to keep into a deep loop?

I wish I could "like" this post. Alas, this place doesn't have that option.

And that's the story of why I'm not allowed near pregnant women for the next few weeks.

TIE Fighter was one of my first PC gaming experiences, on a black and white laptop with a trackball-style mouse inbuilt. I loved it, but when you started dogfighting your only option was to spin the trackball, swatting away at it like a madman to keep the directional momentum going. It was fine, but after playing for an hour or two your fingers felt like one massive bruise.

I suspect this is probably the game's intro cinematic, but a new CGI trailer has been released. It's probably got better starfighter action than Rise of Skywalker.

I'm holding off because I've heard that although the game supports full flight sim setups, it's a bit of a shitshow getting it all bound correctly.

Not for me as it sounds like the only good stuff is multiplayer and that is not what I want from one of these games.

I actually just rage quit from this (Alt-F4). Took me a while to set up the HOTAS (not seen a problem as big as Mac said. It seemed fine to me.)
It takes ages to find and press button 8 (or whatever it wants) when my X52 has sliders and POV hats and mouse sticks etc.

The reason I quit was the first tutorial mission. I've been having a great time but then the mission is to chase someone. I put all power to engines to boost the speed but I cannot reach the final closing door to get through it in time. There's no boost button and after restarting 4 times I gave up.

It may well be that I have to restart further back to catch up quicker but I'm pretty close to start with.

Argh! Because it's so new there's no online help yet. I'll see if I can find a video...

I thought that putting all power to the engines fills a boost meter allowing you to use a sort of afterburner.
