I've been waiting for a brand new X-Wing game for so long and have so little faith in EA that I'm fully expecting this to be a CCG.

Yeah don't get your hopes up the stuff I've read says it's got a very brief single player side to it a and is mostly multiplayer focused. Apparently EA wanted something they could get out quick using the Star Wars license, they deemed other projects too ambitious or taking too many years to develop. So it's basically your old fashioned license cash grab.

My brain briefly reached for hope that this could be a resurrection of the old greats, then I remembered that it is from EA. Anything not guaranteed to sell 100 million units in week 1 would not be countentanced, so of course they will go in for the absolute lowest common demoninator - multiplayer shootybang with nothing more complex than a fire button and probably some form of battle royale mode crowbarred in for good measure.

Move on Snowy, nothing for you here.

If it wasn't going to have ranks and awards and all that RP goodness of the originals, I wouldn't have bothered anyway.

I’d pay an embarrassing amount of money for this.

Just give me a god damn X-Wing VR game that isn't a shallow arcade shooter or a five minute "experience". Is it really so hard? Yes, probably, but do it anyway. It'd be great.

I've seen rumours (well, basically confirmation from people that are apparently working on it) that whatever Squadrons ends up being, it's going to have VR support. I just really hope it's something I can spend hours playing, because VR doesn't have a huge amount of that and I've spent ungodly amounts of money on my flight sim kit that would likely work with it.

Tell you what EA, why not just fuck off, take your bottom-rung, devoid of imagination titles and ram them dry up your metaphorical shitter.

I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now. Yes, I'd prefer a story-lead single player game, but it's a VR starfighter game with at least a passing reference to sim elements like power management as in the X-Wing games of old, which ticks a lot of boxes for me. I want to see real gameplay before I get excited though.

I'm a little concerned that it's set after the Battle of Endor and there's no mention of B-Wings, instead replaced by U-Wings. I love me some B-Wing.
