Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Well doesn't time fly? I stepped away from Stalker 2 in December, how can that be right? Looking back in this thread though, I moaned about the swamps on the 19th December, so yeah it's been a while.
But I'm back babeh!
The swamps had really put me off, especially as they 'fixed' the A-life at the point I needed to make my way out again. Actually I have dipped back in a couple of times since December but been killed by the wildlife without making my way out of the swamps, thought 'fuggit' and put it down again. Well seeing ManBearSquid playing it and hearing how much he was enjoying it prompted me to go at it again. I logged in, and with heavy map use walked out of the swamps on my first attempt, taking a slightly circuitous route as my usual habit of making a bee-line to the next objective always ended up with dead Snowy.
I made my way to SIRCCA, which I won't go into detail on so as not to spoil it for anyone yet to get to that point, but suffice to say it is HARD! You encounter so many enemies, both human and less so, but more that from the point that you head to the swamps, you have no opportunity to get your gear fixed or restock (other than from looting corpses and the environment). I was wearing a suit with good psi-resistance that I had upgraded to hold more artefacts, but by the time I got to SIRCCA it was at 20%, so I had to switch it out to another suit I had found. I was also on second-tier weaponry as I had run out of ammo for my good guns. Be prepared, when you leave for the swamps, take all the ammo you can carry and alternate weaponry. I finished SIRCCA, have sided with a particular faction as part of the story, and made my way back into the world. All the technicians are absent from the map, so I am assuming that I need to reach a point in the main quest-line for them to re-populate and finally be able to repair my gear.
Since leaving SIRCCA, I am going back to old parts of the map, but because of story events the world has just stepped up a level, and I am having fabulous firefights with much greater frequency now. A-life makes the world so vibrant, with crazy fights between factions, mutants, me and all points in between.
It's still Stalker too - at one point in my wanderings, I found a ruined train just outside a tunnel (which was pitch black) with the tracks disappearing into it. My gamer brain told me there was almost certainly some good lewt to find and I was dawdling just outside the tunnel deciding what to do. Out saunters a Chimaera, which rips me dead in seconds. Yeah, Stalker remains a game where discretion is almost always the better part of valour!
