Re: Battlefield 6
Played a bit of the open beta and really enjoyed it. There is very much a feel of BF3 and BF4 with the gameplay. It's so great to see my beloved Battlefield make a comeback after the very mediocre 2042.
Graphics are very detailed and the level of destruction is amazing. I had a few niggles with the controls and I'm not a fan of every class using any weapon. The shotgun is also insanely OP. It's meant as a backup weapon but many people use it as their primary. But this is stuff that can easily be fixed. Overall it's a great effort.

Yeah, I'm enjoying it too. I haven't played a BF game, or PvP for that matter, since BF4. This one just looked more interesting and so far I've been enjoying the experience, regardless if I'm winning or losing.

Re: Battlefield 6
It's good, probably more enjoyable than I was expecting given my usual dislike of this type of game. The maps are well designed to promote more close-medium range encounters, and the health regen mechanic makes sniping far less worthwhile unless you're particularly accurate. I just wish it was a little slower paced, with less emphasis on near-instant deaths. The shotgun in particular needs some adjustment, it has too much range to be a one-shot kill.
I'll keep playing through the beta periods, but I think I'll be tempted to pick this one up. It'll be the first Battlefield game I've bought since Modern Combat on the 360.

Re: Battlefield 6
Well I, for one, am extremely pleased with what I've so far experienced within the beta, though I will say that I do think that the TTK could do with a little work shotguns are super bloody op - body suddenly come flying right past you arms and legs spread? Yeah, they got shottied KA-FUCKING-BOOM style. It has in all honesty been a mixture of both elation and frustration there is plenty to be addressed but once I had finally found the right weapon in the form of a good old modified low recoil Carbine well...it all started to come together and I'm currently forced to play cack-handed and still found myself having a bloody grand time. They mostly come at night...mostly.
I'm effectively playing the game at full 1080p w medium to high settings utilising DLSS/FGEN/NVREFLEX and getting a rock solid "80+ fps" performance wise plus my teeny tiny 6Gb RTX only uses 3Gb of VRAM and I'm playing on a CPU that you can (currently at least) buy for just £50 on Amazon...along with a roughly £200 perhaps a bit over GPU in a brand-new Battlefield game in 2025. That's quite something...how it handles any larger maps remains to be seen. This to me is exactly the reason why not every tom dick and harry developer should run with Unreal Engine and should stick with their own proprietary engines. It would be a very different story otherwise. I'm reading that folk on simply a 1070 are managing 50 to 55+ frames no troubles, which is very promising to hear given the destruction additions on top of everything. It does the job for me to properly enjoy it, that's all that matters...

Of course there's plenty of rage baiting/misinformation going on surrounding the entire secure boot aspect and even though I was personally terrified to alter anything in the bios of a PC that's still but five months old it was (eventually) but a simple two-step change, and I've had zero issues since. Is it up there with my favourite Battlefields? No, not yet. There is however a vast amount of more promise than I ever discovered in playing a lot of deep sale 2042 with tighter maps destruction that quickly alters your little safety snuck reality and immediately fills your pants and man the sound design...ive never heard anything quite like it even just rewatching back my very own or Raids' videos the speaker fill left and right at all times is pretty fucking gob smacking. It really envelops you, making you feel right there in the thick of it.
Most and all importantly is that it feels like Battlefield again...with proper classes and a sense of dignity - not some half cocked hybrid bullshit of something else entirely as how 2042 turned out to be (though I still found some enjoyment in it id very much feel as though I was forcing myself to play it at the best of times) whereas if I had a solid match on this beta I couldn't wait to instantly dip into another round which of course is all the encouragement you ever need to contemplate buying into the full release. As with others in our group, I'm still reluctant to pick it up at launch and may hold off until they add a dedicated server browser, which is possibly one of the highest demanded features right now.
All in all is Battlefield back? I'd say a firm yes...or at least in part enough to finally never have to return to 2042 ever again. Is it on par with BF1? No. BFV? Hmmm, that wasn't everyone's cup of tea. There's still clearly amounts of work to be done, obviously. The smaller map rotation offered though tighter and fun isn't the BF experience many want to play prior to release, but with talk of a larger map being included in next weekends test there's a solid amount of hype and expectation building. I mean after hitting half a million bleedin' players of course there is - the fact that Vince Zampella and the many teams that were involved may have pulled off the impossible and brought Battlefield dragging back around a corner back to safety - back from the brink of utter irredeemable self-destruction...is something to certainly celebrate regardless. EA should be gently cupping the man's testes at this point, if launch goes near as planned...you know the rest. It's a great time to be a gamer for sure.
I wish them all the luck in the world, when half a million players try out your first beta test alone only increasing further expectation for both the following weekend and beyond that the actual release date...yeah, they are going to need it.
Battlefield is (kinda) back and the future looks brighter than the wtf happened here experience that was so often 2042...Battlefield Vietnam maps included in Portal please.

Re: Battlefield 6
Yeah, I saw that Rush would be available and then thought of our recent chat during the game. I'm all for some more carnage!
I've enjoyed the beta, even when being battered to a pulp. The only times my enjoyment waned was when playing with randoms and there was just zero team play, but this didn't happen often.

Re: Battlefield 6
Really enjoyed it as well, although I didn't get to play it that much. It's definitely a return to form and it's great to see people excited about BF again. I was getting my ass beat until I turned off cross-play and got matched with other console players, then fun was had.
There was a few gripes such as the vehicles controlling like shit, the LMG's being very underwhelming the game allowing you to spawn right in front of an enemy player. But this is a beta and stuff like this gets fixed and refined.
Hopefully get to play the next beta, there may be a new map and hopefully some new gear to play with. Very happy with how the whole thing went.

The second beta started yesterday. Didn't have to queue and was straight into a game. They added a New York map which is good but it does feel like something you'd see in COD. The shotgun is still insanely OP and is a favourite of doorway campers. Fun was had all the same and its great when you get a good squad.

I haven't had a chance to give it a spin again yet. Looking forward to getting stuck in over the weekend. I saw some footage of the map and it looks less my style, but that's fine.

Re: Battlefield 6
Overall that was great, a beta that was more polished and stable than many full release games. I had very few, if any technical issues, it just needs some balancing (that fucking shotgun!). Managed to make it to rank 17 and was happy with that. Towards to end of the beta I was in a match where an entire team was on the roofs of the Cairo level shooting the other team in their spawn, that obviously needs addressing.
Its going to be a long wait until October but it looks like they've really got a banger on their hands.

Re: Battlefield 6
My opinion on it did waver quite a bit over the two weekends, but really the negatives were more about my feelings towards the genre as a whole than the game itself. I think they have a really solid game; great player movement, animations, incredible audio, visuals, the level destruction is fantastic... but at the end of the day it's still a competitive shooter and it suffers from regularly having miserable games where your team just isn't competitive and it devolves into a constant stream of deaths and respawns unable to get out of your HQ spawn. On the saturday of the first weekend I was all ready to put money down on release, but on the sunday we played four games as a group, and three of those were wretched and completely put me off it. We had a much better time on the second weekend when Snowy finally managed to get his PC fixed and wanted to give it a go, but we didn't go back to it on the sunday as we'd had our fill. The shotgun can still fuck right off - instant deaths from one shot of an infantry weapon are absolutely no fun to play against in this sort of environment.
Something I did think was that I'd absolutely kill for that engine, and the feeling of how it plays, to be used for a PvE tactical shooter instead of an adversarial bloodbath. They've gotten a ton of things right with this and I do respect the effort that's gone into it, but it's just not really what I go for in a game anymore.
