40K Space Marine 2
Never thought this would get a follow up after all these years. The original was fun in a gleefully violent way.
Re: 40K Space Marine 2
A pleasant surprise. The first game was pretty entertaining.

Hope they get Mark Strong to do the voice acting again.

Looks glorious

Damn, a pretty downbeat review from PCG:

Sounds like it's initially amazing but despite the campaign only lasting 8 hours it wears out its welcome long before the end, and the co-op mode is too half-baked to make up for it.

Re: 40K Space Marine 2
Eurogamer are a little more positive. They push the fact that it works best in co-op, which is the entire reason I'm planning to buy it.

Playing 40K: Darktide with Dave, Alex and Ian has made me really enjoy the setting. It's so delightfully over the top, and this looks to be more of the same. The only reason I'm holding off buying it on launch day is the fact that it apparently doesn't have ultrawide monitor support, which is supposedly coming in a patch later this month. I stopped believing in promises of patches years ago, so I'm holding off until it's actually available.

PCGamer seem like they are an outlier as most other of the main players are a lot more positive.Sly Boots wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 6:06 pmDamn, a pretty downbeat review from PCG:

Bit more positive about it here as well. Might wait for a sale and see if they improve on it with updates.

I just bought it with some birthday money and it should allow access 4 days early - I think from 5pm today.
Should have a chance to try it out over the weekend.

Re: 40K Space Marine 2
Picked this up yesterday on sale (well it was down from €70 to €45 for a digital version). First off the graphics are stunning, considering all the chaos that's going on it's very impressive how it looks. There are sometimes literally hundreds of enemies barrelling towards you from the distant destroyed background getting ever closer. The fact that you can actually hit them from this distance as well is awesome.
The gameplay is a fairly simple, hack and blast at anything with more than 2 legs. Enemies burst into fountains of gore, limbs and heads go flying in all directions and your space marine is drenched in red after a few seconds. Move from one slaughter arena to the next with 2 AI controlled allies and that's pretty much it. Hapless guardsmen get trampled in the fray trying to help out.
I am finding the controls a bit of a ballache as there is so much going on it's often difficult to block incoming attacks, I often miss the visual que to parry a hit. You can just step back and ventilate the living bejesus out of alien scum with your bolter as long as the ammo lasts, then rush in to chain sword the remains. So yeah it's good clean, gory fun. I did find myself only playing it in short bursts as I think the relentless nature of the combat might start to get stale if kept at for a prolonged period.
Nice
