I haven't encountered most of these myself - the first one especially absolutely sent me. Henry the BS king!

And I'm finished! Masterpiece right to the end, and even past the credits. I've not had this much sheer enjoyment from a game in many years.

I picked this up as have had a couple of days off. I am enjoying it but the on-rails prologue is overstaying its welcome - open up already!

An Australian man spends half an hour getting borderline emotional talking about how much he loves this game:

I finally finished the opening sequence - I have to say it was very good, introducing a lot of the skills etc while telling a compelling story. Was joined vicariously by Dave as I was streaming on Discord, and almost immediately was shown that combat is not something to enter into lightly, especially against two enemies at once! I had quicksaved as soon as I saw them and before they saw me. Two villains robbing a traveller. I intervened and was hacked down about 10 times in a row (my first real fight since the tutorial), eventually leaving the traveller to his fate :)

Thankfully when I spotted another ne'er-do-well looting a body a little further in, I redeemed myself and gave him a good hard killing!

If there's one thing KCD highlights more than any game I can think of, it's the value of armour. There's a lot to combat and both character and player skill makes a difference, but the one thing that will turn combat from nightmarish to feasible is solid armour, so that a glancing blow is no longer potentially fatal.

And if in dire straits, pilfer some armour! Shame is for the rich. Just make sure not to parade it in front of the person you stole it from.

As I said, I'm quite fascinated by the game myself. Visually I'd say KCD2 has achieved something quite spectacular as watching you trundle gently down a singular foliage corridor had I narrowed my vision a little the environmental trickery on show could almost be mistaken for the real deal - it's the most natural looking game I do believe I've ever seen put to screen. As someone who commonly takes woodland walks it really blew me away how much they had nailed the authenticity both near and far. Also, as mentioned at the time I've owned the original for years but never had the balls to commit to it because of how demanding/unoptimised I'd heard it was, but I may be tempted to give it an install on this day our lord...but I might just hold out for the newer build and not have to concern myself with any of that.

Even from the short stream Ian put up it was clearly evident to see that the writing and the humour were bang on, of course I've heard a great deal about this Henry fellow, so it was nice that it came across immediately how laxed the general games design is to allow you the player to really submerge yourself deep within the wonderfully presented world the many different characteristics presented all round and the overall experience ensuring a fun immersive highly well realised world. A most sturdy oi give us your armour and an apple or I be bashing your skull in type challenge.

KCD 1 really is my favourite game of all time. I thought something like RDR2 would do it but I think being in first person is what swings it for me.

Defo echo those forest/wood walks. They are so realistic.

Agreed, I marvelled yet again the other day — jumping back in for the first time since 2018 — at just how the Beech tree woodland has exactly the right feel, astonishingly good atmosphere and ecology for such an old game.

I will say - the rain effect at night is one of the very worst visual FX I have ever seen. Thankfully there is a console command to make it vanish. Splitting hairs, not here to poke fault, but there it is :)
