The Covid-19 Thread
Re: The Covid-19 Thread
Anecdotally I've heard that staff are generally so rushed off their feet due to reductions in shifts that they don't really have the time to properly clean up between groups either, so just because a table has been hastily wiped with a wet cloth by no means is it going to guarantee to stop the virus persisting and spreading on the surfaces.
The virus is spreading predominantly through the 18-24 age group at the moment and so the media are admonishing them for throwing parties and disregarding rules. But they conveniently ignore that the same age group is heavily employed throughout the hospitality and retail sector, many of which have been forced back to work in public facing roles since July. The R rate isn't at 1.7 just because a bunch of youngsters are having house parties, this thing is everywhere again.

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
Had a few friends have to have their kids tested as school and socialising has resulted in high temperatures and coughs. One group cleared and negative waiting on the second.

Yep, this is the situation we're in today.

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
So, to expand on the above. A week after starting school, our youngest came down with a high temp and cough on Saturday morning. After 36 hours of trying to find a spot at a testing site we finally got one 2pm yesterday, and until a (hopefully) negative result comes back we're having to self-isolate at home.
We're far from the only ones:

I give it a month before we're in a national lockdown again. If not sooner, level of cases yesterday was back up at March levels and is predicted to be back to as it was at the peak by the end of the week.
Thank fuck as a country we focused on getting pubs and beaches reopened in the summer, rather than the return of school pupils in September

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
Sorry to hear that mate - fingers crossed for the negative result.
Re: The Covid-19 Thread
Yeah, just came through - negative. Which we were expecting really, as it's inevitable at the start of term loads of kids immediately come down with colds and bugs. Only now, that involves a frenzied hunt for available Covid-testing slots and a 48-hour wait before they're allowed back to school.
I give it a week before they're off again.

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
Yeah, there was a kid in my nieces class that was positive so everyone had to stay home. She had a slight temp but ended up not positive.

Quarantining yourself at home because you tested positive.... with 20 other people there

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
Quarantining. Some girl I know who we were with on Friday and Saturday neglected to tell us she'd had a test.
So, now I'm more or less jammed into a room because my parents are both older, can't get a test because the government couldn't run a bath, and I'm stuck doing nothing on my only days off this year.
Not to whinge, obviously.
EDIT: Neglected to tell us she'd had a test, went out anyway and got the results today I mean.
SECOND EDIT: Honestly, how have the government fucked testing info and resources up so royally? I'm mildly overweight, but unlikely to die. But without knowing this information so many more could die. I'm so fucking frustrated right now. Johnson's road to damascus moment would've been more effective if he'd been caught blindside by a speeding motorist.

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
Last week, Lancaster city centre played host to a van with an illuminated board on it telling people to get tests. This week, two of my colleagues have been told they'd need to go to Aberdeen if they want a test. That's a 270 mile drive.
While the van was there, the driver got into an argument with a traffic warden who was disputing the legality of the van being there. Pretty much sums everything up really.

Re: The Covid-19 Thread
I'm sure the driver got off lightly as he was only breaking the law in a very limited and specific way.
Re: The Covid-19 Thread
Maybe it won't be such a bad thing dying.
Re: The Covid-19 Thread
A first search told me the closest testing station was Galashiels (85 miles away).
A further search showed three c.15 miles away, but maybe or maybe not appointment only.
A further search shows local press talking about a mobile station 3 miles away.
Three different mediums, three different sets of testing stations.
I despair.
EDIT: Finally managed to order a home test.
