If he did lose - and assuming it's not like the 2000 election where it was so marginal that Al Gore almost won - what could he do other than start a protracted and presumably futile legal battle? If it's in the courts past January, would Biden just remain president-elect until it was resolved? At the very least, my understanding is that Trump would still cease to be president on inauguration day unless the courts have overturned the result by then.
