Server Renewal 2021/2022

Post by Mantis » Sun Aug 08, 2021 3:06 pm

Hey all,

I haven't done one of these for a couple of years, but I'd appreciate a hand this time round. Server fees for the site are due in the next couple of weeks so any contributions no matter how small would be very much appreciated. I can't believe it's been three years since we launched the place already!

I know times are increasingly hard at the moment due to spiraling costs everywhere and Covid hitting so many incomes, so please don't feel obliged to donate if money is tight. But for those who can, Paypal contributions to: Preysworld at yahoo.com are very welcome (I know, I need to update the email at some point!).

Cheers
Dave

P.S. As a side note, I may look into alternative hosts when next year rolls around when I hopefully have a bit more time to manage a server migration. As it stands I don't think we make full use of the current allowance we pay for and the ongoing issues with the .PHP file download prompts does not seem to be going away, though thankfully I seem to have found a way of reducing the frequency of it.

Worth it for the amusement that someone still uses yahoo mail ;)

I still technically have a Hotmail account. It currently has 2778 unread messages in it.

Sent what I could Dave. Thanks fella.

On the email front I'm still using my old Telewest Blueyonder one from what I think might be the 90s.

Thanks very much guys.

The email is just a throwaway one I use for the PayPal account, I don't actually use it at all because, y'know, who'd use Yahoo Mail nowadays. -_-

Yeah, my hotmail account is just there to sign up to things I don't want to actually read the e-mails from. I think I've had it for nearly 20 years.

Chucked a tenner your way Dave - no idea if that is enough, let me know if you come up short, can send some more if needed.

I've sent some cash.

For what it's worth, I have 3 old Hotmail accounts, the most recent of which has 10,337 unread emails. The original one is what I publicly used when I was a mod at PCGF, which I then had to abandon for the second Hotmail account because it got targeted by trolls signing it up for every godawful thing imaginable (yes... 'trolls' ¬_¬). I doubt the original is recoverable and I've not looked at the second account for so long that I'm terrified of what I might find.

I think we have to assume it's become self-aware and is begging for the sweet release of death.

It's the sort of thing that is in danger of been awakened by internet dwarves who delve too greedily and too deep.
