Had a book of his art since my teen years, bugger. A true visionary.
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Eh, he always struck me as a cumudgeon who never got over the fact his father was a much better writer than he was, and spent all his time trying to "protect the legacy" rather than letting people actually see how the sausage was made.
I certainly didn't wish him dead or anything but I felt he impeded more than he facilitated access to his father's work.

He was certainly highly protective of the works, which is understandable given pretty much his entire life from childhood was dedicated to them. I only really got a sense of how much input he had in The Hobbit and LOTR after reading Tolkien's letters, and while it would be a huge stretch to call him a co-author, he played a massive and vital part in the writing of those books. And of course were it not for him, the tales of Middle Earth would have ended with JRR Tolkien.

That's a huge loss.

One less Python in the world makes it a duller place.

What a fucking shame.
This is not something I
usually say as I look at the age of someone and consider whether their life has been cut short.
77 is a good innings but it's denied us someone who's wit would have only got better if not for dementia.
I'm going to link to this hear in case anyone missed it - it's from a long time ago (not really considering Terry Jones looks hail and well)

Dementia. Yet another bastard the human race has to contend with.
