I spent a good portion of that encounter really closely examining all of my magical items to see if any of the images looked like they had gemstones in them. At one point I considered lobbing my daylight-spewing Staff of Fire through one of the monsters to see if that would work.

What was that creature? Don't think I've ever encountered anything like it before.

 Same!

In a way I feel a bit sad I didn't get to save the day with Sir Chalfont's purple ring, that I've carried with me since the very start of our first campaign. I was quite proud I remembered I had it!

It was a modified Nightwalker:

I added the stuff about duplicating and the binding ritual, as I thought it would be intriguing to have a creature from the negative energy plane where ‘defeating’ it through combat actually had the opposite intended effect and made things far worse.

EDIT - There may be possible spoilers in the detail for Drosku’s fate.

Oh boy...

Well it was a rather portent sign that Zigi drew that card from the deck then. Who ever could have seen that foreshadowing coming.

Also, if I'd had a minute's warning before the fight, my magic circle spell would probably have been able to prevent his death

Oh no, hope you feel better! :(

It's not the dreaded C-word, is it?
