SCOTUS is doing its best to divert the news narrative off the frankly explosive Jan6th committee revelations. Roe vs. Wade is overturned. Women's right to determine their health decisions and their personal health privacy are now at the mercy of individual States, many of which have trigger laws ready to plunge them into Handmaid's Tale darkness. This comes after previous decisions such as repealing New York proper-cause concealed carry restrictions; the ability to sue for not being read your Miranda rights during arrest; right to a reversal of death sentence when new evidence shows incompetent representation or wrongful conviction. The US is descending into Christo-fascist darkness, a loud minority is captivating all levels of civic governance and organisation and it isn't facing much active resistance tbh. The Tories are ravenous to bring it over here...

All sadly true, Eny, and honestly it is going to get much worse. The Dems have just never had it in them to fight back in kind, no matter the cause.

My present exit strategy is to squirrel away as much money as I possibly can - which isn't going to be terrific, since I'm living in Key West, FLA now and making FLA nurse wages - then after a couple years go live with my brother in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. He's got his house there, in a nice little gated community, and I'll just have to figure things out from there. I hate America now, more than I ever have. I've never been a huge patriot, because I grew up mostly overseas. I get very little benefit from being a citizen here, compared to many others. I severed early from the US Marines, way back when, on a general discharge, so I've never gotten any benefit from having served. My stupid social security account has me locked out for the last year, and none of those fuckers even work in an office anymore thanks to Covid, so there's no one for me to call to get it fixed. Reason being, I'm kinda sick with this IBS/whatever that I've had for a couple years now, and I'd like to pursue getting disability benefits.

Whatever. This dumpster fire of a country is indeed headed into true fascism. It boggles the mind how these dumb rednecks can think they'll have any benefit for themselves, once the walls of democracy crumble.

I follow quite a lot of OSINT accounts on Twitter, and a few Substacks etc. of those that got banned by weaponised mass-reporting from Gen. Michael Flynn's "digital soldiers", and the work they have done on the whole psy-op learnt from 4/8-chan, gamergate and onward into fully exploited Q-anon ops and MAGA3X (pizzagate was their first op) has been incredible. The West is right in the midst of weaponised mind-control exploitation, with a great degree sponsored from Russia, but enabled by the Koch/Thiel/Federalist Society operation too, and it hasn't really been grasped by those we would rely on to extinguish it. I fear the storm will have to rage a lot darker before an army rises against it fully.

It's pretty bloody dire, isn't it. It feels like Trump's real legacy will be stacking the supreme court in conservatives' favour and slowly regressing the country back to the 1950s. What's next? Bringing back segregation? Old white men don't like them gays either, right? Maybe they could do something about them next.

One thing, the New York concealed carry thing doesn’t actually seem like it’s the hair on fire big deal it’s being made out to be. It seems more like they have to have good reasons for denying the permit rather than the person having to prove a reason why they need it. Granted it’s not great but they still need to pass a whole bunch of checks before getting the permit.

As Alan said, judge Thomas mentioned as much in his concurring opinion on Roe vs Wade yesterday:

“In future cases, we should reconsider all of this court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell,”

So a married couple's right to contraception, the disallowal of states to criminalize sodomy, and same-sex marriage are all up for judgement next. Trump is the ego they put in the way to do their bidding, he isn't really the source of these problems. McConnell is the architect carrying out the orders of The Federal Society, led by Knight of Malta Leonard Leo, and funded by a massive dark money network above 250m dollars, including a vast funding through foundation structure coming from the Kochs.

Yep. Democrats are better than Trump, but they are ramshackle and tedious in what they do not do. They expect decency from rabid wolves and reciprocal trust from thieves. There is no tenacity that isn't put down by a troll army that preys on slightest exposures that they subsequently seem to wilt under rather than fight through. That and the corporate dems who are really only there to soften conservative aims that benefit them, with a performative resistance. Unfortunately, the US needs a rewritten, modern constitution that plainly states the rights of all equally, but that would need a civil war—which is coming—if fascism is to be repelled. If fascism does establish, the constitution will be re-written, but the other way, the regressive way, the way that benefits the parasitism of the already rich. It is why the right has kept with the gun worship and "praise the lord", because the biggest nutters will be the ones fighting for them when it really hits the fan.

The sleight of hand in all this is that the SCrOTUS is basically returning control to individual states, but the infection of different levels of severity of law between different states is going to impact the people targeted: the poor. It is giving freer reign to Christo-fascism that controls people through religion, fear, bad health and debt. This is only the start...soon data will be free reign. Agreements not to share collected personal data will be given up by the original company selling on, a whole new gold rush. It is data that has got us to where we are, the weaponisation of it, and psychology, against the people that gave it so freely...

Fucks sakes. It's basically impossible to satirise these days. I honestly thought legislating against homosexuality was a silly extreme, and they've already started the ball rolling?!

Honestly I haven't paid *that* much attention to US politics in the last couple of years because, well, four years of Trump wore out my attention span for it. The last page of this thread honestly reads like a conspiracy theorist notebook to me, and I'm not sure how much stock to put into any of it.

I'm a member of a hobby and videogame based community on Discord which has a fair few gay and trans members, and reading some of the comments coming from American members is just fucking heart-breaking:

Today I'm getting ready for camp, a music camp for youth who identify as female, trans and non-binary. And it absolutely breaks my heart that we're starting this week with the message that they're still not safe celebrating who they are. I'm openly crying at the airport alone and don't know what to do.

God I wish there was a non-lame way of putting a primal scream into text. Why the FUCK is that decision put in the hands of people who have no idea what it's like to be terrified about whether or not they're going to have to have to dedicate almost the next year to making a child they neither wanted nor chose to risk having, then having to A: keep the child that's literally a product of potentially the most traumatic thing that's ever happened to them, or B: have to deal with the hormone-induced guilt sending a child off to someone else. (if they can even find someone) These fucking assholes don't know what it's like to have to live every day in fear of being told that someone took advantage of the person they love the most, and there's nothing they can do about it!

I don't think there's a realistic chance of this sort of bullshit spreading to the UK in the near future because we just don't have the same religious zeal that large parts of America do. I just can't imagine having to deal with all of this on top of the cost of living stuff that we're going through already.

I dunno mate, I can see this shit creeping into Canada which has a more European form of government. Nationalism is spreading in Europe and it looks like left leaning and centralist parties are having a harder time holding onto power with each election. Russia should have it's nuts in a vice but apparently they're making more money now than before the war with oil sales to China and India.
