If the rest of the planet could just switch off contact with the US for a few years, I genuinely think we'd all be better for it.
Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
According to CBS, over 500 of the released Epstein files are entirely redacted. I’m sure there was nothing relevant in there at all, nothing to see here, move along.

Building the future, and keeping the past alive - are one and the same thing.

Is it just me, or is everyone else also reading all the commentary coming from the US Dept of Justice downplaying Trumpy in the Epstein files as utter bollocks?

Which is why he was appointed...He pushed the "Pelosi stopped the National Guard" J6 bullshit, when it was he and Miller who greased the way for the insurrection to happen.

Misinformation 101: pollute 1000 articles of fact with 1 false one, to erode trust in everything.

This hilarious shit as well. It's very obvious the idea was dangled in front of him like someone would do with keys to a baby. He says it'll be ready in 2 years.
"The biggly biggest battleship ever build. Bigger than the Moon..did you know that? It shots lazers and can fly. Joe Biden eats puppy's..it's true.."
2 years to design, build, test and launch a brand new ship. A ship that would be sunk within hours of going into a battle.

Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
They're not even naming the first ship after the class, which is the tradition. Makes me wonder whether he's planning on having an aircraft carrier renamed, as they can't have two USS Donald J. Trumps, and the US traditionally names its carriers after Presidents while battleships are named after states. I sorta hope he actually does this, as renaming a ship is a traditional superstition among navies and is considered bad luck, and it'll once again prove how utterly out-of-touch he is. On the name; I did notice a comment on Reddit earlier that "USS Defiant" sounds too British, followed by someone else saying that "British ships have such fucking cool names.", which is about the only time I've ever heard an American say anything British was "fucking cool." And it's true, we have the best ship names, it's one of the few things we still do exceptionally well.
But ignoring the name, from a technological perspective this is kinda interesting. If it ever sees the light of day, it'll be the first combat vehicle with a railgun as a main armament, something that sci-fi has been bleating about for decades. I'm not aware of those things being practical yet, and the notion that this is going to be ready in two years is absolutely laughable. The US has been testing railguns for years, and they certainly have functioning prototypes, but the last I saw of them they were all basically proofs of concept - capable of firing and destroying test targets, but only in a laboratory-esque environment. They certainly weren't built into compact turrets and hooked up to a ship's power generation.

Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
It would need to be nuclear powered to operate a rail gun apparently. That would add a ton of weight for shielding.
Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
Nah, not necessarily. I think their previous programme (which incidentally was cancelled in 2022/23 because of technical limitations, namely the barrel breaking after just 15-30 shots) was designing a weapon capable of being carried on an existing destroyer-class ship, none of which are nuclear powered. Even if they have to install an entire gas-turbine for the railgun, that wouldn't be impossible on something the size of a battleship. I've looked into it a bit further, apparently Japan has a conventionally-powered military ship with an operational railgun, so I was wrong before, but it's not as impressive as what the US was trying to accomplish - they had to dial the power down otherwise they too destroyed the gun barrels after a small number of shots. Basically I think the railgun concept is being held back by existing materials technology, and that's why the notion that this would be in service in 2 years is absolutely laughable.
I'm certain this thing will be cancelled within 5 years.
