Re: Frontier Scum, Scene II: Horsehead Ranch
We could search the ranch grounds for tar or oil and concoct a primitive fire bottle. The dry hay dust floating around inside the barn would cause the air to catch fire. Just a thought...

Is there an oil lantern within sight?

Lookin' around, from your current position in the NE corner of the compound, the only thing within sight is the body of the dead guard, clutchin' a rifle, sittin' in his rickety ol' chair 'neath the horse-shelter, in the corner of the corral. Who knows what he's got on 'im? One of you could climb over the fence and...well...rifle...through his pockets.

I'll give it a go. If it all goes south and I get riddled with bullets, it'll be another weekday.

The Cadaver Kid looks left and right, but sees no-one about, then he clambers over the fence of the corral and creeps over to the dead guard [not a pretty sight; something has been eatin' him—desert scavengers, most likely] and begins to search through his pockets.
Give me a 2d6 roll please, Cadaver Kid.

All you find on the guard, other than the rifle (you could take the ammo and give it to Cumflutter, or take the rifle yourself) is a fountain pen. No hooch, no oil.
Only other things you see in this corral are the skeletons of decapitated horses, half-buried in the dirt, and the water-trough.

I think I best scarper back over the fence before things get hairy. I'll take the rifle in case it comes in handy, but I'll give the ammo to Cumflutter. I'll also take the fountain pen, for the unlikely event that a "pen is mightier than the sword" opportunity arises.

I think it might be a repeater rifle, rather than a hunting rifle, actually, so you may as well keep the ammo loaded, ready for use!
So, what next, gentlemen?

How flammable would my homebrew concoction be? Its ingredients are highly organic...

In that case, unless anybody else wants to claim it, I'll load it and keep it for myself.Stormbringer wrote: ↑Wed May 21, 2025 7:49 amI think it might be a repeater rifle, rather than a hunting rifle, actually, so you may as well keep the ammo loaded, ready for use!

Happily. I'm going to struggle to hit a barn door even if I give it both barrels at point blank. Anything requiring the slightest amount of physicality or dexterity is not my forte.

I don't wanna intervene too much here, but just gonna throw this out there: an alternative solution is that you step into the stables guns blazin'. There's four of them, they're preoccupied, and there's four of you. You've got revolvers, rifles, shotguns and they've got wooden clubs...
One rule about Frontier Scum that's different from MB:
Unless a gunshot is made with difficult circumstances (from horseback, from very far away, at a moving target), shots automatically hit!

"Anybody ever hear the old ditty about Leeroy Jenkins?" I ask as I check my weapons are ready.
