Now that I'm in my new place, in a job where I'm home most of the time, I'm very much considering getting a dog myself. I've wanted one since I was a kid, but until now I've not had one or more of the space, the time, or the money at the same time make it a sensible choice.

Dachshund (dappled Choc coat). He's already being pampered like there's no tomorrow

Aw, what a beauty he is. There is no energy quite like that a dog brings into the home. Selfless, and enduringly positive. =D>

My border collie is 6 already, can't quite believe how that has passed so fast. Congrats Alan, pups are so much fun (but also so much stress as you keep them safe from themselves). Find out which local vet is best and look for a 'fit for life' type package, where you pay a monthly stipend but get checkups, flea, tick and worm treatment and annual boosters covered. Also get him(?) insured on a comprehensive whole life policy.

Any dawg questions happily answered mate :)

Thanks mate, yes the breeder mentioned such packages and the vet we already have the other critters registered with offers that, and we've talked about the need to get insurance also.

And he is a boy, name of Max - my eldest named him within about three seconds of meeting him, and as it was already on my mental shortlist of names we went with it.

Things got off to a slightly rocky start when in our car he started howling and had explosive diarrheoa when we tried putting him in the carrier we bought for the journey - following a stressful cleanup I ended up cradling him like a baby on the way home, and he snoozed pretty much the whole way, so I was already totally smitten by the time we got back

A few nice surprises though, he instantly took to the crate we bought for our room with his basket in - woke a couple of times during the night but we were expecting that, and truth be told he was easier than either of our daughters . He also seems to have been trained to go to the loo on puppy pads, which was a nice surprise.

He absolutely adores the girls, already forming close bonds there, which is great as they were the main reason we bought him.

A few new additions to the collection...
Anderson: [reads Kay's mind] Sir, he's thinking about going for your gun.

Judge Dredd: Yeah?

Anderson: [reads it again] He just changed his mind.

Judge Dredd: Yeah...
