It feels a little rich coming from the US, considering they themselves fired 5 anti-satellite missiles in the 80s, during which time the Mir space station was in orbit.

Russian troops are building up on the Ukrainian border as well. Is it always like this or has the world gone a bit more nutty in the past decade?

Considering that the western world spent a good forty years or so afraid of the Russian boogie man who might unleash nuclear Armageddon on the world and prior to that we barely went a decade without having a large military conflict, I would say that the 90s and early 00s were a blip. The 2010s and 2020s look to be restoring us to our state of normalcy if anything.

I expect it's no coincidence that China are becoming increasingly vocal and aggressive over Taiwan. If the West is busy keeping Russia at bay, we're not going to go to any drastic lengths to stop China from doing what they want at the same time.
