Did you wanna investigate the trapdoor behind the bar, rather than risk the croc-drop?

Having completely missed that, yes please.

Maybe I’m standing on the trapdoor while making the speech, pouring myself a drink, and then it buckles beneath me.

I reckon one of us goes in from the well direction, and two via the trapdoor. I can do the former, and in the process order Jinx to guard the well behind me in case anyone tries to escape that way.

Also, given the inherent risks in the plan, Doc will gulp down his ubermensch elixir...

I do think a search of the remaining premises would be wise before doing this though...

Yeah, two on each side of the corridor behind us, I listened and from what Doug said none of them sounded occupied.

So, who is doing what?

I'd say we're searching, but to kick things off, Doc will tentatively tease open the door to the lower left of the bar area we're in now (ie the NW of the four unopened rooms)

I’ll take the NE room.

To save time, I'll just have you explore all the rooms at once.

All four are bedrooms, presumably designed for the guests back when the Horsehead was operational, and, until today, made use of by the Loudmouth gang.

They're furnished with filthy beds and littered with random bric-a-brac. Holes in the rotten floorboards give away how the many rats that scurry about the floor got inside.

Lying about in the rooms you find, all together:

- 2 cans of lard
- a pack of 18 cigarettes
- a deck of cards
- a deed to a horse
- an embroidered handkerchief
- a pair of wall-mounted deer antlers

And here's a map of the now fully-explored ranch-house:

Disappointed, but not entirely surprised, Doc will top up his pack of smokes and head outside to grab Jinx and tie him to the well for guard duty, and prepare for his descent.

All right, Doc, time to make that descent...

Descend the rope by testing SLICK (d20+4). You're using two dice thanks to your Übermensch concoction (made from soap, booze and chewing gum).

So, d4 to rest, with a +1 for a smoke and a +1 for a drink of water.
That's 3 total.
You way want to top-up with some more Laudanum too; another d4 roll. You may as well. You're addicted to the stuff by now!

5 and 15 on the dice, so 19 total for the best result.
