As you approach the blacksmith's shop, you see within the large double doors of the workshed, the blacksmith himself is wielding a sledgehammer with two hands, and with it, he's holding his own against four men armed with repeater rifles and dressed in the uniform of the Incorporation Army.

They're using their rifles as clubs and they're attempting to bring down the blacksmith in this manner. Whether they've run out of ammo, they want to take the blacksmith alive, or have simply turned this into a sport, you're not sure, but it's proving a deadly game all the same, as the blacksmith caves in the skull of one of the soldiers with his hammer; the fellow collapses dead on the floor of the shop.

Three more soldiers remain.

The blacksmith, noticing the Bean Bunch at the doors of the shed, shouts for your assistance.

"Go get 'em, Jinx!" Doc yells, and he opens up with both revolvers.

13.

If that's a hit, the damage rolls were a 3 and a 4.

Doc's Hogender revolvers tear new holes in one of the soldiers and he is knocked off his feet, dead.

Roll a d20 for Jinx, Doc!

15!

d4 for damage, I think? In which case that's a 2.

That's right!

Jinx drops the whiskey bottle he's carrying, runs over and seizes another of the soldiers in his jaws; the man yelps in pain and readies to attack the dog with his rifle-butt.

Roll me 4d4, Scrancher!

Re-roll all 4s and add them to the total.

Not wanting to be left out, Rufus gallops towards the man about to hit Jinx. He grabs hold of the arm with the rifle and clamps his jams down hard. The dangling pigs dangly bits flail about like fleshy door knockers.

If there’s anyone left, I’ll blast at them.

SLICK: 15 - 1 = 14

Slackarms damage: 4 + 1 = 5
Auto pistol damage: 3 + 2 = 5

2, 2, 1 and 3 on the rerolls

In another storm of flying lead, the last two Incorporation soldiers are dead meat.

Scrancher's automatic pistols chew through pistol slugs and he's all out in the blink of an eye. Thankfully, these four soldiers have some spare!

Scrancher loads up on it.

They also have, in their pockets:

- two deeds to horses
- a silver ring (worth 10s)
- a safety pin

The blacksmith is very grateful for saving them from the Incorporation. They were trying to take him alive in order to force him to make armour for the Army, he explains. As a reward for saving him, he's happy to fit you all with a piece of boiler-plate armour you can wear over your shirts and under your coats if you have 'em.

(You all have room for this in your inventory)

I believe your second roll there should have just been two dice. You only needed to re-roll the 4s.

What are the mechanical benefits of the armour?

Ah my bad, I misread that as "reroll all 4".

-1 to all damage.

For those with coats and the armour, that means you will receive -2 damage.
