Cumflutter flips the empty case out and scrambles to reload. He steadies the rifle on the fence post and is ready to cover his companions if they need high velocity assistance.

That pen-dodgin' sucker's head opens up like a watermelon, spraying Cadaver Kid with blood, before collapsing to the ground dead.

I wipe the blood from my eyes and pocket the pen.
