I stuck through to the end. After they had covered the content of the book, the actor who plays Ciro takes on directing and they move to S3 it definitely went downhill, although I must say I still really enjoyed it (there were some very silly moments, but still).
Have you read the book(s?)?

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

Been watching Gomorrah - currently got up to the penultimate episode of Season 3. It's good if you like violence and no pattern whatsoever to character arcs; not worth getting attached to any characters at all. I'm concerned it's going to get a bit samey, but I think the first season in particular w...

Re: Football

Mate, they've just confirmed Conte on an 18-month contract. His interview the other day was crazy. I've never seen someone dare a board to sack them before. Back pedalling now. That passion's propelled us back to the Champions League although 4th equals group game entry, not that I'm complaining, j...

Re: Ukraine

If putin keeps up this tough talk about "not only will Ukraine but the whole world" regret this or that (paraphrasing the latest spouting off he's done) I think he might end up with a cruise missile or three on his head - if he ever comes out of his bunker, that is. I worry that he's created such a...

Unfortunately right now the Russians are not getting the news and a lot are brainwashed
In this age though that's a matter of time surely.

Re: Ukraine

I think he has lukemia - which explains the urgency on his part. No matter how you break this down he is going to remembered in the history books for fucking it all up for the Russians. 20 years work undone in weeks. It's 20 years work, undone in weeks that (if/when he goes) is reversed in less tha...

Re: Ukraine

I can't shake the thought that he's purposefully destroying significant parts of the country just to make it an unsuitable addition to NATO. Depleting their armed forces, destroying the cities, wrecking the economy (just think how much it's going to cost to repair all of the damage being done); it'...

Re: Ukraine

It's not even just the troop to population ratio, it's the quality of those troops that's important (by which I mean their training, their supply lines and their motivation to fight insurgency). If the ratio is somewhere between Afghanistan and Iraq levels, look at how disastrous those occupations ...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

It's been a while since I saw the previous season so I can't remember whether there's an answer to my latter question there. My guess is that Elizabeth Shue wasn't available, or simply didn't want a larger role in the series. She played a fairly important role in bringing Johnny and Daniel together...

Re: Ukraine

I saw something interesting on Twitter this morning which was about an old study by Lehman Brothers economists (I know), on armed forces occupancy required for successful invasions.

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

The inclusion of Stingray again was bloody stupid though, got to be a better way to get to the arrest. I get the feeling Stingray is just there to get properly beaten up by the adult antagonists, because doing so to one of the kids would be a step too far for censors. I know they've gotten into a f...

Re: Ukraine

It feels like we have yet to reach the peak escalation point of this conflict. I suppose that's partly down to what you mean by 'this conflict'. I think 'this conflict' won't finish for a long time. Permanent insurrection if Russia 'win'. The only thing I could really see changing things and causin...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

Watched the latest season of Cobra Kai . Really enjoyed it. I know earlier in the thread people were saying it was a bit weak but I thought the inclusion of Silver made it far more exciting since he's clearly got a screw loose. The inclusion of Stingray again was bloody stupid though, got to be a be...

Re: Ukraine

I'd also say poorly educated conscripts with shit equipment don't cost a huge amount. Isn't that what he just said? I do feel for some of these Russian soldiers though. I know people will say they could just not fight, but there has to be people in this army, don't want to be in the army, nee...

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan

Property markets (rental and sale). When I was a trainee, money was thin and I was flat-sharing etc. which was fine, and it seemingly was easier because you have a tighter budget so you view the X that fit within it and that's your choice. Now I'm fortunate enough to be able to get my own place and ...
