Re: Elden Ring

This is one of the things that fed into my dislike of the game back when it launched - it's *so* obtuse at times, and I suppose in retrospect, DLC being difficult to access shouldn't be a surprise. I actually remember watching the Ellen's Souls Academy series for one of the games where Luke mentione...

Re: Elden Ring

I don’t think you’ll be able to do the DLC after defeating the final boss of the main game though, so bear that in mind. I can’t remember if it retains a final save or anything. Wha? I don't know what happens at the end of the game admittedly, but I've never heard of a DLC that starts from a late p...

Re: Elden Ring

Yeah, I had to grin and bear the second outlay to have it on PC (it's just better in every way than on my XBox One), meaning I'd then spent £85 on a game I wasn't sure I'd get on with again (although thought it much more likely the second time given how well I got on with Jedi Survivor). Thankfully ...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

Agreed, though I think that your giving it your blessing does help with that appraisal, as you've got rather more experience in the field (heh) than I do. Clarkson's modern popularity largely stems from highly-scripted fakery, and while Clarkson's Farm is heavily produced and has a lot of expensive ...

Re: Currently Playing

Yeah, I tried so hard to enjoy Star Citizen when I played it last year, but the number of bugs in fundamental systems made it entirely unplayable. I can't remember a single title in my 35 years of gaming where the inventory system just didn't work - picking an item up worked maybe 10% of the time. I...

Yeah it would be nice if the world just calmed the fuck down for a little bit.
It would, but of all the things I'd suggest to create that situation, the death of the Iranian president wouldn't be high on my list.

Re: Sad news about Solitaire

Yeah, this came as a total gut punch this morning. Todd was such a fantastic guy to game with, and I had the utmost respect for him going from soldiering into medical care. Just a couple of weeks back we'd been making plans to get him into Helldivers with us, and I really thought things were looking...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

What did fun ever do to make you hate it so? :( Kidding, obviously, the pace everything moves at and raised voices are a negative, to the point where they actually lampshade it in the SNW crossover, but if you can ignore it I think it's a very worthy part of the franchise now, more so than Discovery...

Re: I Just Watched (Films)

Yes, playing god and man's hubris are at least fun concepts for a sci-fi film to explore. Fallen Kingdom is not about that. In this they're attempting to sell dinosaurs as the ultimate military weapon, for $30million, when not half an hour earlier, someone manages to mortally wound one with a single...

Re: I Just Watched (Films)

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom This is the first of the Jurassic World series I've seen. Are.... are they all this bad? I knew it didn't have a stellar reputation, but I really wasn't expecting something that had more in common with Sharknado than it did the original Jurassic Park film. It has abso...

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series

Wormhole Xtreme was the 100th episode, and was a great concept. It comes back for the 200th episode, which is one of the funniest pieces of sci-fi I've ever seen.

Re: Aaand, In Other News...

Kurzgesagt is my favourite Youtube channel; they're excellent at breaking down fairly complicated scientific topics to at least give you a layman's view. They also occasionally answer important questions, such as what would happen if we fired all of Earth's nuclear ordnance at the moon. They have a ...

And if it is cloudy, maybe a transformer near you will explode and you'll have your spectacle there instead.

If you enjoy educating yourself via the medium of colourful cartoon birds; Kurzgesagt did a video on these a few years back.

Yeesh, it's not enough material to keep the prose interesting (though I've never much liked Tolkien's writing), nevermind what will undoubtedly be spun out as a three hour epic.

Re: General Film News

After how poor the Hobbit films were, I'm not sure why having Peter Jackson having another crack at it is such a big draw anyway. One of the reasons the The Lord of the Rings trilogy was incredible was because of how it was filmed, and I'm not sure that's even possible anymore in the current financi...
