Re: Elden Ring
I think the obtuse stuff works in a more linear level design that the Souls games had. When you transfer that to an openworld I agree it becomes much more a pain and is one of the reasons why I had trouble gelling with Elden Ring. When you get stuck with a specific set of weapons because you didn't ...

Re: Elden Ring
I was watching a video series on the Dark Souls games the other day and it made me want to try Elden Ring again as I wanted to play some Souls stuff but something that was new. I looked at getting it on PC as my TV has quite poor input lag on it which makes playing these types of games a bit frustra...

Re: General Gaming News
I'll take it from the trailer that you can either stealth a mission or just run in swinging. I'd heard of the black samurai before but I'm pretty sure Ubi are taking massive liberties with the story. But as Snowy said I'm all for it if it gets a bunch of frothing troglodytes all hot and bothered. T...

Re: General Gaming News
Having enjoyed Shogun recently and with Ghost of Tsushima on order and out tomorrow, this is a very distant third place for me. On the one hand, having one black and one female protagonist will have the gammons up in arms which is always a good thing. In this case though and with zero prejudice, a ...

Re: General Gaming News
Hopefully we'll start to see a bit of a rethink around suitable scale and budgets of games of certain genres, and rather than see things like immersive sims disappear we'll instead see proper labours of love being produced (ie not Redfall) by teams of an appropriate size using sustainable resources...

Re: General Gaming News
Yeah they have generally struggled to make big sales. The sell well enough but not to the standard most publishers want.

Re: General Gaming News
They could just hire up a new studio rather than close a bunch down. I did see some stuff around Tango Gameworks and that a lot of staff left to join Mikami's new studio and there weren't many people left at the studio. Theoretically yes, but that's just not how these things work now. I suspect at ...

Re: General Gaming News
There are rumours that Bethesda is being given a dedicated Fallout team and this is the reason for the cull. Not convinced it's true yet but there was a comment from Todd Howard last week that they're trying to increase their output for their core RPGs. If it is true then what a shitty way to go ab...

Re: General Gaming News
As I understand it, Redfall was something they didn’t want to make but were pushed in that direction. Which sucks even more. Didn't want to make is strong. When they were part of ZeniMax they wanted a more service based game which is what Redfall started out as and when they joined Microsoft they p...

Re: General Gaming News
Terrible news for all involved and especially with so many studios being shuttered, hard to see how everyone getting laid off is going to be able to find a new job. I don't think it is that surprising to see these two go through. Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin both made big budget games that didn...

Re: General Gaming News
Along similar lines Bethesda just announced what is coming in the first big Starfield update since release. Coming May 15th. Headlines are: the ability to change the difficulty of combat, so you could make gun combat harder but ship combat easier for instance; massively improved surface maps; interi...

Re: General Gaming News
Like I said, it's not as successful as Skyrim, especially in terms of keeping people playing but I don't think a drop off in players is an indication of a failed or unpopular game, most games drop off in a similar way. People rightly make a big deal of concurrent players as they are a good guide but...

Re: General Gaming News
It's hard to imagine anyone being that bothered about that :/ I think there will be plenty of people looking forward to it. Starfield is one of those games about which the agenda was set by the people who didn't like it and ignores the thousands of people who did like it. Because the general consen...
