Currently playing a very simplistic point-and-click adventure called The Darkside Detective, which was published just over a year ago.

I put off buying it for ages, then eventually it was reduced to a very reasonable price on GOG, so I took the plunge. Then I never actually got around to playing it. Then I tried it once, a few weeks back, and thought it seemed quite dull. As I woke up super-early this morning I thought I'd give it another shot. I don't know what happened as I'm pretty sure I was playing from the beginning last time, but this time the first mission was different. Anyway, I quite enjoyed it.

You play a police detective and you take on specialist cases of an occult nature, but it's all very tongue-in-cheek and fairly light. It took me about fifteen minutes max to complete the first case. I don't know if I'd recommend it or not; it's too lightweight to rank among the classics of the genre. The graphics are okay in that faux-retro way. The puzzles are dead-simple. The humour is a bit crude, and to be honest I prefer these sorts of games to have a more serious tone. However, for worn out "ex-gamers" like me it's in some ways quite nice to complete a simple puzzle game in fifteen minutes, without feeling like you're embarking on an epic quest which threatens to consume your life for days or weeks on end...

Yeah, for the price it's a decent enough diversion. FWIW the devs have supported it really well since release as they've released a bunch of new cases for free, extending the game even further - probably why there was a new one you didn't recognise from before.

I haven't played the new ones yet as I've not played since release, but I keep meaning to go back in and try the new content.

So annoyingly the Divinity Original Sin definitive edition comes out tomorrow. It's not save compatible with the original game :(

I'm going to restart the whole game again woohoo :)

Homeworld Deserts of Kharak. On the last mission now, it's a tough one! Great to see the prequel story to Homeworld!

Fallout 4

So I'm an interior decorator now. I spend ages doing up a derelict building and turn it into a palace and the ungrateful bastards still sleep in the squat I tossed up as a stopgap. Cunts.

Don't get me started on that game. Oh wait, you didn't - I just wandered in all bitterness and disappointment.

Crusader Kings 2, still.

Completed this. It was great if short lived. Not bad for the £7 I paid for it.

Yoku's Island Express

Started this up a couple of days ago and really enjoyed it. So much so that I played it pretty much non-stop for the next couple of days and completed it today. It's a cross between pinball and a Metroidvania and it works really well. The levels are really well designed and they way pinball is integrated into it is excellent. I highly recommend the game to anyone with an interest in pinball or just Metroidvanias in general.

Just finished my CK2 run, without reaching my objective. Oh well.

Now onto S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl - which I've never played before, due to not having a good enough PC at the time it came out. Does anyone know (with experience) of some good mods that plaster any gameplay cracks and maybe up the graphics, without adding owt to the core game/story?

Used this one back when I played it last, quite good if memory serves.

Aye, that and Zone Reclamation Project looked like the best bet. However, how the hell do you install mods on a Steam game?? I have no idea where the gamefiles are anymore...

You will love Stalker SoC with Complete, the atmosphere in that game is awesome. Even better when you have your weapons modded up to where you want them. Really worth persevering to the end. Call of Pripyat is the pinnacle of those three games though, that game is something else above, but get to Pripyat in SoC at least, it is worth every delicious minute spent in the game.

Yep i loved CoP also. The nodded version really made that game come alive. Amazing games that deserved more sales.

75 hours later I've finished the primary story on Monster Hunter.
Now onto the additional stuff, tougher beasties, building more gear for sets for specific monsters, building a better axe :)
Should really try a non-axe related weapon too....

Fair dues, when you can hide one of the harshest RNG grinds I've seen in a game behind quality combat game play you've done good.
Only hit two unfair and irritating fights too.

Also, Stalker will forever remain in my never finished pile.
