I kind of love that Dev looks like someone who could never metal until he metals and then he looks like someone who could never not metal. Songs alright, I'll probably hum it for the rest of the day but not one I'd go out of the way to listen to. Wouldn't skip but wouldn't select.

It was nice enough but not the kind of thing I would usually listen to - very similar vibe to Empath which I enjoyed for a while but is never a go-to album.

Will give it more of a listen when the album drops and there is more context around it.

Spoiler
Quick story attached to this. I met a lad at a place I then worked and it was he who first introduced me to Depeche Mode, I remember him forever playing DM songs constantly during our breaks and I really found myself intrigued and completely hooked by their sound. One day he invited me round to see his gaming and yes DM collection only for me to step into not what can even be described a bedroom, but more literally an undisputed shrine to all things Depeche floor to ceiling. Their cd's and memorabilia quite literally covering the entire floor and every inch of side table. We both bought tickets to see them live at the GMEX in Manchester in 93 during the now legendary Devotional Tour the above video stems from, my first ever live gig as it happens. And it was without doubt the single best thing I've ever attended, a night that even now decades on I recall like it was only a short while ago.

Only a month later we had a huge absolutely stupid fallout and almost ended up fighting on the car park, he later moved to the US and became a pretty successful writer - we have not really spoken since. Despite all of that, I will always be eternally grateful to him for bringing DM into my life and for being there at my side for the greatest musical night of my life. We have friends that tend to come and go but what some of them bring to us can become things that remain with us forever long after those friendships fade.

Rammstein videos have never been understated...

I wonder if they are calling time, there were a couple of the songs on this latest, Adieu being the most obvious, that suggest it.

I hope not, there really is no other band like them and any imitators fall well short, particularly with their amazing live show.

They did have Adios on Mutter though so I doubt it means much. I think Till is just getting more introspective and melancholy as he gets older.

I also hope not, they are a unique act and just go from strength to strength with each album.

Lindemann just turned 60 a few days ago so you never know. There's another song on the latest album with the video showing sand running out of an hourglass (in reverse.. ) and the band being unborn so make if that what you will.

On a side note I used to work in a big multinational in the early 2000's with loads of people from around Europe. A German guy there was the bands chauffeur for a while, nice bunch of guys by all accounts.

Most bands that I have met have been really nice. Aside from meet and greets, I am quite friendly with Aaron Eady from Paradise Lost having shared a beer or ten with him at many gigs over the years (we seem to have very similar tastes), and I also chat with Ryan Van Poederooyen, erstwhile drummer of the DTP, on social media quite a bit. Fred Åkesson from Opeth is a really nice fella. Devin Townsend is possibly the nicest guy you can meet, chatted with him on a few occasions now.

As to Rammstein, 60 is no great age, and it isn't like they tour continuously (although their stage shows must be a lot of work). We saw Bruce Dickinson in the crowd at a recent Opeth gig with his son, rocking the fuck out while the band played, and he has one of the toughest tour schedules going (and is older than Till). Then again, Bruce shares my birthday, so is clearly a cut above :D

Mucked around with a bit of acoustic recording after work and came up with this incredibly happy sounding little piece:

It's been years since I uploaded to Soundcloud, but I thought that I'd share this.
