General Film News
Re: General Film News
Ehh, I enjoyed it for what it was, which was a silly side story. It's been a weirdly meandering season, with only a very loose plot with a bizarre lack of urgency.
Honestly the TV stuff has been far more successful than the films since Disney took over. Of 5 films, I'd only call one of them good, with the others being average to poor. But Rebels was fantastic, season 7 of Clone Wars was fantastic, Mandalorian has been fantastic if you were a fan of Rebels and Clone Wars. Ahsoka, the trailer for which dropped today too, looks like it's a going to be a continuation of Rebels, which is exactly what I was hoping for.
I know Star Wars has always been a family-friendly franchise, but it feels like you really need to watch the kids shows if you want to get much out of the franchise these days.

138 out of how many? That number on its own means nothing.

It's not all bad...

Whether or not the traction that came about courtesy of #AlitaArmy was anything to do with it or Avatar 2 made such an obscene amount of profit they greenlit the sequel thanks in part to Jim Cameron who knows, regardless of whatever was behind it I am more than up for some adventures with Alita The Doc and co.

Is Battle Angel worth a watch, I was never bothered?
Could be good, could be utter shit. There's a mid 2000's vibe about it.

I reviewed it last year, the tl;dr being that it's a fun, imaginative film, but with some really odd (and sometimes unsettling) touches. It's definitely worth a watch.

Uhhh... this kind of sucks. Start at the bloody start! You're not star wars, you dont start at part 4!
Unless folk go "oh thats bloody good, how's about we give them game of thrones level support and film the whole bloody lot as a prestige TV series!"

I suspect it's too difficult to convince a studio to consider a trilogy these days. It would be worse if they filmed one, it didn't make a billion dollars and they shelved the rest, because you do need all three parts.
To be honest I think I'd prefer the First Law trilogy to be a high-budget TV series rather than a film trilogy. I've sorta thought this for a while, but TV just works far better than film for adapting most books, as it means you have to cut less of it.

It's a standalone book pretty much so not as bad as it could have been, I wonder if it's testing the waters in a way and if successful they'll do the preceding trilogy

To be fair its probably the most stand alone of them all since youre seeing Shivers become Shivers. Any later one you'd just be getting Shivers without context.
