I always assumed that the game was partially balanced around the mission timers, and it's one of the reasons I don't like to mess with them. If you need to rush to meet an objective, you're going to leave yourself a little more open and that's going to lead to mistakes. They're definitely the reason I had problems early on in my recent playthrough.

You can call your new Reaper "Troi" as much as you like, we remember you exploding the first one. They're not like a child's goldfish, you can't just replace them without anyone noticing. ¬_¬

So, I've been getting the itch to play something turn based and despite getting through 3/4 of the game in the past I deceided on a restart as it's been close to a year since I last played.

I can remember how disapointed in Xcom 2 was after loving the first the first time round - it just seems to layer on the unfair handicaps to make the game challenging and I've been radically reaqquainted with that feeling again this evening. Bear in mind I'm playing 'vanilla' not war of the chosen.

I don't see the point of hacking. Very little to win and and so much to lose. I know Xcom is a game of RNG but something that can radically alter the chance of success on a 'dice roll' just seem utter pointless. Literally flipping a coin.

Timers and concealment. Timers 'encourage' you move faster. I've yet to work out how to predict how to know that I will break concealemnt when rushing forwards. Again this seem like something that was designed to increase challenge artificially.

So, I find myself struggling to play the game tactically as there are so many factors that force you to ignore tactics in the game. It all feels like an artificial hump to get over to be able to enjoy the more complex abilities and experimentaion that those bring.

arqueturus there are mods that make it easier, there is even one to remove timers. Take a look at the link below for some ideas of mods you could use.

To be honest there's an option when starting a campaign to lengthen the timers, and doing so I've never once had the slightest concern about them running out. I'm not sure if that's a patch or a WOTC addition, though, tbf.
