I haven't built a PC in a long time. I got off that 'upgrade after two years, major upgrade after four years, new build after six years' carousel. But I must admit, as my old PC died a death recently I have been itching to build a new one.

Now to attempt some overclocking. if nothing else it's a lot cooler & quieter than the old stock fan.

Gave the old girl a bit of a spruce up to go with the new gear, got some rubber grommets for the cable management and a new case side with a window. Not the brightest thing ever but the fans are my existing led ones throughout, I find fairy lights a bit distracting tbh. ;)

I think it's in between a 1070ti and a 1080, probably nearer the 1080.

Runs great and quiet and doesn't go above 59Β°C which is nice :)

Ran Uegine benchemark to see what the same settings I had for my RX 480 and it was double the framerate across the scenes 126 average.

Had some bonus money burning a hole so I bought a whole new system from Chillblast, my current system is mostly over 5 years old now:

i5-8600k
ASUS ROG maximum MB
1070ti 8 Gb GPU
1 Tb samsung SSD with 4 Th standard drive
A sparkly Corsair CPU cooler
Lovely new corsair case

It wasn't cheap and it feels like a bit of an impulse buy but bollox to it.

I dithered a lot about getting a top of the line CPU and GPU but from what I read the former isn't really necessary and the latter while probably an excellent step up, I can't justify the enormous cost increase.

I'm running a highish spec i5 from 2012 and my rig still flies through most games on high settings with no problems whatsoever. Spending a fortune on a CPU is a bit overkill and unnecessary.
